C4 FAB '12-'15 Tacoma front Lo-Pro Winch bumper install instructions

Hey everyone, here are the install instructions for our '12-'15 Tacoma Lo-Pro winch bumper.

Tools required:
Flathead screwdriver
10mm wrench/socket
12mm wrench/socket
14mm wrench/socket
17mm wrench/socket
7/16" wrench/socket
3/4" wrench/socket
Jigsaw or tin snips to cut plastic bumper.
Drill with 1/4" bit.


1) First you will need to start by removing the plastic front bumper cover. You will need to remove the grille first and set it aside. Then remove the plastic bumper cover.
Here is a link to a quick video that shows how to remove the bumper cover. The Tacoma in the video is an 05-11 model, but the process is the same.

Here is what the truck will look like once the grille and cover are removed.

2) Once the plastic cover is removed, take the foam insert out of the back of the bumper cover and discard it. The bumper cover should look like this after the foam is taken out.

3) Now the black plastic insert in the center of the bumper cover needs to be removed. Use a flat head screw driver to push down on the tab on the blue plastic clips on the inside of the bumper cover. Slide the clips out of their slot and then the center plastic piece can be removed.




The next step is to cut out the plastic portion of the bumper that is no longer needed.
4) Cut along the natural shape of the bumper right in this area to remove the plastic in the center of the bumper cover.


The bumper should look like this after the cutting is complete.


5) Clean up the edges of the cuts with a sanding pad on a dremel tool or die grinder. That is the only cutting that is required.

6) Now remove the aluminum crash bar, frame end caps and tow hook from the truck.
Use a 14mm socket and wrench or impact drill to remove the crash bar parts.




Use the 17mm wrench or socket for the frame end caps.


Also remove the tow hook.

 

You can now re-install the plastic bumper cover and grille onto the truck.
The cover will look like this after trimming and re-installing:



You are now ready to install the Lo-Pro winch bumper.
If you are using a winch and/or light bar inside the bumper, install them into the bumper first.
1) Lift the Lo-Pro bumper up into place and attach it to the mounting studs where the aluminum crash bar used to be attached. Use the original hardware at this attachment point.
2) Install the supplied 1/2"x1 1/2" bolt with flat washers and lock washer into each hole where the frame end caps used to be.

Do not forgot to install the nut on the inside of the bumper as well.


3) Now the plastic bumper cover needs to be attached to the small mounting tabs on the bottom side of the Lo-Pro bumper. Hold the plastic in place above the tab. Using the metal tab as a guide, drill a 1/4" hole up through the hole in the tab and through the plastic bumper cover.
4) Install the supplied 1/4"x1" bolt and washers into the tab and through the hole in the plastic to hold the plastic cover in place.


5) Do a final check to make sure all mounting bolts are tight and your installation is now complete!

I have a question and was hoping someone could answer it for me. I have been looking at aftermarket bumpers for about a year. I am interested in the LO-Pro front bumper for the stock looking clean lines and weight. I am in the process of modifying my 2015 DCLB for alot of towing and want additional protection for the trans and oil coolers and it looks like to LO-Pro will provide some measure of protection. Last year in SW Colorado My brother-in-law hit a mule deer with a RAM 2500. It took out the AC and trans cooler which sidelined us. I know there is nothing foolproof in protecting against deer strikes but at lease if I can save the coolers I can limp to a dealer. I looked at the install pictures in this thread but I cannot see how much clearance there is between the bumper and Rad, AC coil, trans cooler. There is a TW thread with a

Derale 52506 trans cooler installed and I will be installing one on my Taco. They are 44000 BTUs of cooling and will cover about half of the radiator. So here is the question; will a trans cooler that large fit behind the LO-Pro?

 

I could not tell you for sure if there is room for that cooler to fit. Basically the bumper does not extend past the front face of the flat bumper mounting brackets on the front of the frame rails. I do not know for sure how much room is between the front face of the frame and the radiator.

Will a 30" rigid industries single row fit?

 

About 70lbs

The bumper is not designed for the Rigid 30" single row, but from what I can tell from measurements, it should work. You will just have to put a couple washers between our light mounts that are welded into the bumper and the mounting tabs that come with the light. The rigid light tabs are shorter than the baja designs so you need to space them up to get the light to center in the cutout.

Hey, I'm interested in this bumper. I've already called Kylie at C4 a couple times, but the more I look into this, the more questions I come up with...

Can the Lo-Pro bumper be installed without removing the OEM plastic...can the disposable section be cut off while on the car, like in the "2005 - 2011 Tacoma Lo Pro Bumper Install" YouTube video?

Will the Toyota OEM skid plate

$233 PT212-35075 Front Skid Plate

PT212-35075 go on over this Lo-Pro bumper? Can the OEM tow hook be reinstalled?

Hi,
you may be able to cut the plastic and install the bumper the same way we did on the 05-11 Tacoma Lo-Pro. We haven't actually tried one yet but I think it would work that way.
The OEM skidplate should work fine.
The OEM tow hook cannot be re-installed, but you wont need it anyways now that you have the tow hooks integrated into the bumper.

 

I got a 06 Tacoma with a 2015 front end does the bumper fit?

 

Wondering if someone could tell me the dimensions of the OEM front crash bar?
How tall is it and how thick? I am going to guess it is 4" high by 2" thick???
