Mine last a couple of years. I'll probably have to get a new pair next year, only because the soles are wearing down.
    What brand do you wear?

Right now I have a pair of timberlands (they are technically a hiking boot not a work boot). I have worn most brands out there of hiking and work boots and most only last 6 to 9 months now. I am usually in the 100 to 150 dollar range as I can not see spending 300 bucks on a boot I am going to destroy in a year guaranteed.
Edit... this was my last pair of work boots (not a hiking boot)

Does the chlorine do that to the soles?

I dont walk through puddles of chemicals or pour it on them. I also use muriatic acid, but again I don't use it on the boots. That's just from walking.
Edit... also the only pair of boots I have seen do this. Normally they just wear flat.

Thats pretty tough on boots. Some types of work will do that no matter what the boots. I have the same approach to cost but I'm not as hard. They wear down pretty good though and I replace them yearly to take care of my feet.

If you ever switch to tennis shoe type you may want to try these. I got them yesterday, composite toe, comfy as hell (for a work shoe)

I pretty much refuse to buy Redwings anymore two pairs was enough to make me say no thanks. I'm allowed one new pair of shoes a year and now I just buy a basic Timberland slip on with a composite toe. I'm not around anything heavy anyways, but some people in the company like to go over kill because the company is paying 100%.

Same here. We're allowed $100 per year. The ones I buy are $86.
Tall boots make me sweat pretty bad and usually are rough on my back.

Thanks those are slick. Will look into. Would be nice to have a composite toe not in a boot.

Well better go change my front diff oil. I was going to change it when I did the rear, but since Toyota can't make the noise happen i'll assume the front diff is good enough for some Redline 85w90.

My right knee is a piece of crap and i spend a lot of time on ladders. I never saw the point in wearing heavy boots on ladders. The lighter shoes are easier on the knees. We're allowed up to $200

My left knee is shot. I just started wearing a knee brace a few days ago. The joys of getting old.
