Take a crescent wrench or a pair of channel locks and bend the hell out of that sheet metal towards you. It’s a pain to get that bolt off but definitely not impossible. Done it many times now

When I did this on my third gen I was worried about how difficult it would be. Was not at all, just needed the right pair of channel locks and a strong will to DGAF about sheet metal.

The upper control arm bolt from toyota is like $17. I cut mine and put new ones in backwards. Easier to cut off the bolt than bend the metal.

I bent the sheet metal as much as I could, still didn't clear. I believe it was the passenger side that was a PITA. Drivers side was easy. So I used a large flat head screw driver to drive it through by placing the tip behind the bolt flange and tapping it with a hammer. It bent the sheet metal back as I tapped and finally squeezed through. I used the same bolt for the install only put it in upside down like others have mentioned.

Personal preference. The stock orientation of the bolt is better incase the nut falls off.

They don’t live to tell the tale.

In all seriousness, probably never. I’m a fan of best practice, and bending the metal at hand really isn’t that hard.

Get the biggest pair of channel locks you can find like these and give er hell: You can peen the sheet metal back into shape when you’re done and coat with spray on undercoating.

Right. I agree in following best practices. But the main reason I ask, is that I have seen that being stated quite a bit, so I just wanted to know if anyone had actually seen that happen

Was the other side easier? It might be that your body was set on the frame a bit toward the passenger side.

Call me skeptical, but I am pretty sure the suspension goes on before the body panels.
