So I had my 2018 DCLB in for its 10k checkup as I posted yesterday. I also had them deal with the recall for the PCS sensor. Supposedly they updated the software and put the ouchless bandaid on the sensor. I saw the bandaid in place to confirm. From what I've read there were NO codes so they didn't have to replace the sensor. So here we are 24hrs later and doing our morning Bkfast, errand run the dash indicators start flashing just like it did prior to the recall "fix". It flashes sporadically for a few minutes then stops and the Icons go away. Then a few minutes later it comes back on and cycles thru as before for a few minutes. When I check thru the settings it is shown as on w/ sensitivity set at level 2.
Has anyone had the same experience and how was it fixed? Looks like another Sat am Continental Bkfast at the dealer is in my future.
    Thanks

So went in to check the PCS failure and sure enough it needs to be replaced .....warranty not recall....have to go back - part not in stock unbelievable....just 1 more sign that toyota cares less. Looking forward to leaving another poor grade on their followup surveys...Not that they read them anyway....

So you find it unbelievable that the parts department does not stock an expensive and rarely used part?

Its the same sensor that is part of the recall....I do think that 3 trips to the stealership for a defective part warrants some frustration. So short answer is a resounding YES!

I'm not saying this is the reason, but I will explain how it works for us. When a recall comes out that involves a fairly expensive part, we have to verify we need the part, then order it. This is done for two big reasons. 1st being, it keeps dealers from ordering a bunch of these parts and then not enough left for the smaller dealerships. 2nd reason, it prevents dealers from being left with high dollar items sitting on their shelves. If a dealer were to order 50 of these, and only ended up using 30, now they are left with an excess of inventory. At the end of the year, or whenever inventory count is completed (October for us) if you have that much extra, corporate gets upset.
Hopefully that helps you understand the part availability issue.

Thank you for clarifying the parts availabilty issue. I wonder if dealer A would share parts with dealer B if the need arises? Or is this not something corporate allows? But do you understand my frustration?

Its definitely allowed, but its up to the dealer if they ship it out. They are not required to make the transfer and there is no punishment if they don't. We will just remember said dealer next time they call us needing a favor.

No problem. I just wanted to make sure if you were upset at a particular dealer or even Toyota, it was for the right reasons.
The general public has no idea what goes on behind the scenes of the shop and parts department, therefore, they are always the ones to get the blame.

Update.....so supposedly the sensor came in and went in for the install....checked underhood and found the sensor looked the same as the “patched” sensor from the recall service done 2 weeks ago. I thought the replacement sensor would’ave been the one without the cushion. Will be placing a call on Monday. Will be looking for a new dealer for my future service needs.

The new sensor should have vent holes and does not require the "cushion". Sounds like someone screwed up.
They could have swapped the sensor and still put the cushion on it, or they just held your truck for however long and said they changed it.
How long did they have your truck?

Before you go all "Karen" on the manager... ;)

Are you still getting the PCS errors?

There are some pics in one of the other PCS threads that shows the differences between old and new sensors and their part #'s.

It's possible they left the old foam pad on, or put a new one on the new sensor.(to be extra careful, duh, but they meant well)

I have seen the difference between the old and new sensors and I did read about fix A and Fix B.

No longer getting the errors....but it sure looks like the old sensor with some road dust on it...I don't believe they did anything to it except possible they applied the software update correctly this time. Still going to call the service manager and ask for an explanation as to what was done.
If its fixed then wonderful, but why tell me you are going to do one thing and then do another?
