2004 catalytic converter

    My engine light went on at 130,000 with a 420 code. I took it to my local mechanic and was looking at $1,900 for a total replacement of the catalytic converter components. 2nd mechanic would use Rock Auto parts for a total of $900. I looked at the schematics and saw a gasket between the cats. I went to NAPA and bought a gasket for $7 and slipped it in place. The old one was perished. I disconnected the battery to reset the codes and the engine light went off and I passed the emissions test in Illinois. That was a pretty good day.
