OK, here’s the deal. The RR Co.’s (All 2 of them) were given vast swaths of land for the RR but in return they had to guarantee passenger service coast to coast. Havin’ said that, once freight became more profitable than people, you were rollin’ thru the Rockies at 2AM. No more coast to coast unless you pay BIG money. Took the last train West from ‘Berta to Winnipeg in ‘89. Dad worked for the CPR for 30+ years so I did travel coast to coast on a family pass. Could never afford to do it again.

You could always become a train rider, get ppl all the time that hop on trains without us noticing. I’ve gone thru my engines inspecting them and come across all sorts of ppl. One lady had pit bulls, some big mean looking guy was asleep on the floor, just tell them don’t touch anything and I won’t say anything.

Gotta say it was style! Leave you shoes outside the suite (yes, I had a suite with separate bedroom) and their all polished up come mornin’. Real Silver Sulverware, linen napkins, the whole shabang. Talk about livin’ in style.

All you need to do is retire! Glad they let me sleep though. Having to rescue this laptop took a lot of the fun out of yesterday!

I can see us all in a box car with the doors open, drinking road soda, and waving at all the crossings!

Just do the Rocky Mountain adventure that ad is on TV all the time. Everything East of the Western provinces looks like the US Midwest anyway!

If you go through Lockhart, you can turn down the horn at Stueve Lane crossing at the South end of town!

I would certainly appreciate it! I put a dB meter app on my phone, and with an empty "block wide" field between our fence and the track, 120 dB is a little excessive when measured from the yard. I have to take my hearing aids out if I am using them!
