OP, if you're willing to start cutting you don't have to lift to fit a bigger tire. Even lifting doesn't necessarily help, since that larger tire as to go somewhere as the suspension cycles. What exactly is your goal? The more narrow the tire the easier it will be to fit.

If you just swap to t0ns you can easily run fodees and crawl mad rocks dawg. Whatever you rub on dont worry because eventually itll just fall off or grind away, and what falls off is obviously just spare parts. Send it my dude

265/70/17 or 265/75/16 are the largest tires you can fit without rubbing, lifted or not.

:gossip: pssst, a lift doesn't change the size of the wheel well, which is the limiting factor when it comes to tire size. Sure, a 285/70/17 will fit on a lifted Tacoma but as soon as you cycle the suspension you'll realize that the lift really did nothing when it comes to fitting bigger tires.

To answer the OP. the largest tire thats going to fit without rubbing / cutting etc is going to be a 265/75R16 (265/70R17) sized tire. Which is one notch up from your current stock sized tire. Anything bigger in diameter or wider is likely going to rub. You can GUARANTEE rubbing with a 285/75R16 / 285/70R17
