Can't open tailgate due to broken Pop&Lock handle

    I purchased new M/N PL5500 off Amazon in Jan. 2016. Over time the lock has gotten harder and harder to lock. Earlier this year my key stopped working so, I was unable to lock my tailgate. Friday, Aug 9, 2019 the latch broke as I went to open my tailgate.

    I am now unable to open my tailgate and not sure how to open my tailgate or even how to get the lock off in order to open the tailgate.

    What should I do?

    Fyi, in 2012 I purchased a Pop&Lock new from Amazon for my 2006 Tacoma, and it worked very well until my Tacoma was totaled in Nov. 2015. The one I purchased in Jan. 2016 seems to have much less quality in parts compared to my previous one that was on my 2006 and over time has degraded in usability over time. Now it's completely useless and I can't even use my tailgate all together.

    Not sure if you have fixed this but you should be able to climb in the truck and remove the plastic cover to have access to the tailgate rods that controls the locking mechanisms to both sides. You should be able to get pliers to pull on the rods to unlock it.

    is there other manufacturers for tail gate pop and lock besides the one on Amazon? i was contemplating to get one myself but it's seems the quality us poor.
    any suggestions is greatly appreciated..
