get a set of dental picks (like $4 at harbor freight) and fine sandpaper 1000-2000 grit wet sandpaper) wet sand surrounding area 1/8th to 1/4" around damage) pick out as much rust as you can.. so it is nothing but bare metal... get a spray can of primer/sealer, and spray a little into a paper plate, or bowl, use a Q-tip and dab primer onto area (thinly..) this will seal it for the time being....

order color matched paint... using a small piece of sandpaper sand primer after you build 2-3 light coats.. just to give paint a tooth to attach, then you can apply the paint.. taking care to let the first coat cure before applying 2nd, and 3rd coat.. paint should be just proud of the surface.. once paint has a day to cure, you can come back and wet sand the area smooth, and level with the surrounding paint (1/8"-1/4" area around damage we wet sanded earlier).. once paint is leveled, you can apply 2-3 coats of clearcoat to blend the area.. let it cure then wet sand again to level the clearcoat with surrounding area).... up it to 2000 grit, and block the area to ensure level surface, and then wax area that you wax removed.. should be good as new if you did it correctly (mostly common sense stuff here)...

I appreciate the thorough step by step! I’ve seen some where they said to hole punch the sandpaper and glue it to the eraser on a pencil. That seems to me as small as you can get and still be able to control the surrounding area. That might be about the size I’d need to go to get the rust off

I was just about to say thats about as small as you can get.. its a painstaking process, but should look good as new when you are done...
