2018 diff leak

went in for TSS recall and check my diff just prior. Of course it’s leaking, dealership agreed and are going to reseal it tomorrow. Everyone with a 2018 should probably take a look at their diff. The leak problem has not been solved yet even though the TSB is only for 2016 and 2017.

 

Funny I saw this when you posted it. Finally checked my 2018 and sure enough mine is leaking too. Lovely a 1 year old truck is leaking. I've got 4 more years of payments...hope the truck makes it there.

 

That reminds me, I need to clean mine and see if it comes back.

 

Looks just like mine ... looks like more of a weepage than leakage to me.

I mean in the grand scheme of things 1mL of gear oil slowly seeping out isn't going to do jack shit. Also just tighten the bolts and call it a day?

 

I've used this on differentials over the years in ADDITION to just a gasket on many vehicles and never had an issue.

No I don't think the truck will make 4 years. I would uber or Byrd, less things to worry about.

 

As I've seen a few 'leaking rear diff' threads I have to ask - has anybody checked and/or re-torqued the bolts on their rear end before they saw any seepage/leaking? Also, if you have seepage/leaking have you tried re-torquing the bolts?

 

I think I've seen where that has corrected it for some people. I've also seen where people cleaned the "leakage" and it never came back.

 

My 2018 OR is a seeping front differential seal. I was in to the dealer today to have it replaced. Unfortunately after waiting for 2 hours they inform me that the seal they ordered in was ‘damaged in transit’ and couldn’t be used.

They ordered a new seal and they’ll call me when it comes in. Not really inspiring confidence in the service department.

 

Really wondering if this is gear fluid. Seems to be way up high on each side. Whichever the case, it would be crazy if it's only assembly lube and everyone is going nuts about it.

 

When I noticed mine it was low on diff fluid. Dealer replaced internal after my superior negotiating skills.

 

Excusssssse. Tech probably ruined the seal on install!

 

I dunno...mine looked like some of those photos at first (0-2k miles), but it has since dried up and never come back. Seriously, bone dry. I chalked it up to seepage from manufacture. That, or my dealer tightened the bolts down at my first service and didn't bother mentioning it.

 

Think of it this way. At least they didn't just install it that way.

 

Welcome to the club! I've had the seepage on my '16 for the past 25k miles. When I changed the diff oil at 15k miles it was roughly half a quart low. There is no way half a quart seeped out of the diff with the amount of oil that was present at the housing. I cleaned it up and it did eventually come back. I'm going to clean it up once again, torque all bolts to spec, and then see if it comes back. I have not torqued the bolts as of yet. I've also been reluctant to let the dealership pull the third member, because with my luck, they'll cause more problems than they will resolve.

 

I never thought of that one. Probably why it took them 2 hours to determine that the replacement seal was no good.

 

95k here, leak fixed 3x uner 40k miles, just started to leak now. I'm going to fix it myself and will assure you this issue will never return. If you want the job done right do it yourself. GEAR OIL Proof RTV, on both sides of the gasket torque it too spec.

 

Dont see how a seal is damaged in transit when its boxed inside another box with bubble wrap lol. Tech deff ruined it

 

None of those are leaks.
