    @US Marine
Saturday marks the 60th anniversary of the biggest quake MT has ever seen. 7.3. Right outside of Yellowstone Park. Lots of people were killed in the landslide. And lots of people were stranded as the road was either cracked and not drivable or was suddenly submerged by the quickly forming lake - now Quake Lake.
I've done a bit of hiking in the area and its a little eery - roads that disappear into the lake. Cabins just abandoned. or half destroyed. Trees trunks sticking up out of the water...

The local news has been doing a series all week on the whole thing, pretty interesting.

yup. can't even imagine what it was like down there that night. i was thinking about camping down there this weekend and checking out some of the special presentations and things going on at the visitor center but with all of the shakes we've been having lately i'm a little leery

there's a rock about the size of a house that basically "surfed" its way across the valley on the crest of the landslide. geologists have inspected it and had determined that it is in the same orientation as it was on the mountain across the valley before the quake.

there was a "floating house" in the lake for a while but they had to destroy it after several people were injured trying to reach it. the lady who owned it at the time was asleep and crawled out onto the roof, was rescued the next morning.

    That's warm !!!!

It got up to 107° here !!! , currently 97°

That's a very large earthquake for that area !!!!

Just got home and just now checked the USGS website and saw the earthquakes in Manhattan Montana

We've been seeing two earthquake swarms over the last day in the southern end of the Owens Valley , one near Coso Junction at the Coso volcanic field . There's been six earthquakes there all mid 3 to high magnitude 3 earthquakes . Also another swarm NE of Ridgecrest near little lake with low to mid 3 magnitude earthquakes

    That's one huge rock !!!!!

    Evening Everyone !!!! :hattip:

Just got back home from the car show and it was hot and possibly the result of the very low car count

Watched an older gentleman in a late 50's Ford 4 door sedan back into another car show participants late 60's Ford Thunderbird . Was a l/rear to r/front impact and sounded nasty but not much damage

As hip as I want to be, it has to be cold.

    My cousin married a Scotsman

    I mean Scotsman

Couldn't understand what he said, he was in the queens guard and is wanted in several countries. He always drank copious amounts of warm beer. Ugh.

    Great story
When he left the British army he took all his weapons and ammo, we are talking serous stuff, he carries 2 duffle bags through the airport and customs asks him "what's in the bags?" He says, honestly, "guns and ammo". They laughed and said, "yeah, sure, go on" and he walked on.
