 for CO trip. Dude I went through these same feels a couple weeks ago prepping for a trip. It always is a great motivator for mods though.

Kinda the south-central region I think. I’m not in charge of the route...I need to import it into my Gaia app
    You’re right about that!

Enjoy Colorado! By far, my favorite state to wheel in, is Colorado. If you're going to Lake City/Silverton/Ouray area, you'll have a great time. I was just out earlier in July. Have fun!

Transmission skid is complete and painted. I welded angle iron in an X on the top side as a reinforcement. Snagged one pic before paint...

Today I got new, higher quality coax ran for my CB radio so hopefully it’ll work better. Tomorrow afternoon I plan to reinstall my rear bumpstops and trim the excess length off the Ubolts.

My transmission cooler arrived today so I have that to do as well. Leaving in 4 days!

Thursday night at midnight I drove my truck out of the shop with a new alternator, new cb coax cable, new homebuilt transmission skid plate, new auxiliary transmission cooler, old wiring removed, rear bump stops reinstalled, u bolts trimmed so they aren’t sticking down so far, and probably some other small items I’m forgetting.

My Ram mount for my iPad arrived today so I’ll have a good view of the trail maps, and my Viair 400p compressor also showed up. Those are two items I’ve been needing for years :woot:

I have the rest of the day (today) to organize and pack all my gear, go to the grocery store, run by the hardware store to get some better bolts for my skid plate, and lastly I need to mow the yard before I leave. Saturday morning is going to be here quick and then I’ll be on my way to Colorado! Can’t wait to get out of the Texas heat for a while.

Departed the house at 4:45 this morning. Colorado bound!

Already re-discovered how much my suspension sucks and needs upgraded, and I’m sure after spending time in the mountains I’ll “need” a supercharger too. :D

So I took my fan clutch off and it’s very tight when compared with the other vehicles at the house. It won’t freely spin at all, where the other vehicles will spin maybe a half a turn or so. All at the same temperature...seems like it’s catching all the time? Not really sure why it’s acting funny. Gonna just get a new one anyway and see what happens. I wonder if I may need a new radiator?

Think I’m just going to order a new fan clutch since I’m not sure if this one is original to the truck or not. They’re cheap enough anyway.

I had a late night in the shop tonight wrestling with my leaf springs. Hours and many strings of profanity later, I have it all back together and closed the gap that we spotted while coming back from Colorado on my driver side between the main leaf and the second leaf that wraps around. I don’t have a before photo, but on the driver side, the 2nd leaf (and I presume all leafs below it) was shifted forward a bit and we suspected that was the reason for my steering to be slightly off and my truck driving crooked down the highway. I managed to get it pretty dang close and I’ll be replacing these worn out leaf packs eventually anyway.

Hopefully, this will make the truck drive straighter. Can’t test it until I get a new fan clutch in of course.

Need to get the Tacoma going so I can start fixing odds and ends on this 4R.

My new fan clutch should arrive on Thursday.

Got the fan clutch in the Tacoma today and put new rear shoes on the 4Runner. Having a bear of a time getting them adjusted properly though. The click wheel isn’t cooperating with me and I have busted up my knuckles!

Coolant temps on the highway seem to be staying around 190º but it's not as hot right outside now so I can't get a good comparison to see if it actually did anything or not.

Had a productive day today :woot:

Oil change and tire rotation on the Tacoma

Adjusted the 4Runner rear brakes, bled the brakes, took apart half of the dash so it’s ready to run a new FM radio antenna when I get one, removed the passenger door panel to figure out exactly what was broken with the exterior door handle, took apart and cleaned the contacts in two of the window switches so now they all work up and down, and finally I removed the LED pods that were bolted to the hood. They’re now mounted on the front bumper.

Question for the folks of TW... I adjusted the rear shoes tight and the parking brake is grabbing on the passenger wheel only. When I have the axle supported by jack stands and put the truck in gear, the brakes do not stop the rear wheels. They will slow down with brake pressure, but they do not stop dead. I’m not sure what to try next. Maybe wheel cylinders? The pedal feels almost normal after bleeding the system.
