I think adding the catalytic converter helped tone down the dBs some in my case.

I had been running URD headers, my y-pipe, 3" cat, Vibrant resonator and numerous different mufflers as well. The Mopar muffler tops them all for quiet flow.

have you ever tried Spintech? i have a 3000XL on my Tacoma with a couple Vibrants. flow is amazing, sound is acceptable... I'm still looking further. but not at all willing to sacrifice flow off this 3.5.

I have tried the Dr Gas (designer of Spintech) Freq Mod muffler. I didnt like it. It was too loud and seemed to hamper flow. Glad you are having better experience with their quietest muffler.

Man...I had all the bolts loosened and a wooden block and floor jack under mine for about 30 minutes yesterday trying to work it away from the crossmember. It would bend up and away but didn't stay that way. It's still less than a 1/4" away from the crossmember and sure to rattle again under load at about 2500RPM. Not sure what do aside from starting to modify it with a grinder and welder.

I wanted to get the stock crossover tube out of harms way and be able to run a full set of skid plates without spacers, so I had the exhaust shop relocate it. They didn't do a great job, and I really want a bolt on solution so that I can swap it out easily if I end up living in a state that inspects. I'm from PA originally, and non-stock exhaust is not passable there in most cases. When we were young my buddies and I would have to swap back to stock exhaust once a year to get a sticker, and then right back to the performance parts after the inspection was over.

Anyway, I've looked into this quite a bit, and have concluded that if I want ground clearance and skid place compatibility in an off-the-shelf, bolt-on product, it has to be the Doug Thorley Pipe Bomb: https://www.urdusa.com/89227-doug-thorley-tacoma-pipe-bomb-y-pipe-2005-v6/

    946-89227jpg-1.jpg

I will be installing one in October, and having a local shop weld up the mid-connection per the instructions. The whole thing can then be removed in one piece. It connects to the downstream exhaust at the factory location, and it's stainless. I think some exhaust wrap will also be a good idea where it's close to the transfer case.

Most of the other options mentioned reduce ground clearance and make the driver-side pipe the first thing that's going to get hit, and they reduce or eliminate the ability to run skids. I'm also not a fan of it going right under the transmission sump where it's going to heat up the transmission fluid, but this could probably be fixed with some wrap.

Definitely do something to shield the heat from the transfer case actuator. I hear it doesn’t like being hot.

Lift the engine. Add a 3/8" - 1/2" shim or spacer between your motor mount and the engine, or your frame and motor mount. After wacking the oil pan on my LS400, I've found that guys do an engine lift by adding a spacer with the engine mount, so the oil pan isn't the lowest part of the car any longer. There's some wiggle room to go 1/2" easily without causing issues and needing to modify everything.

Since the headers/y-pipe are connected to the engine, and also braced to the transmission, they will also raise with the engine giving more clearance to run mid skid that will protect the exhaust. Raising the engine alone may be enough, or you could also lift the transmission with a spacer between it and the cross member. That will mess with your driveline angles however.

Which one of the countless rotrex superchargers would you recommend? F/I is a new realm for me. I've got a buddy that is really familiar with it all but just looking for quick pointers from others as well.

@Roostfactor have you ever made one of your equal length pipes at 2.25" diameter?

They are all 2.25" until the merge collector. Ther collector outlet of 2.5 or 3" to mate with your choice of exhaust might be what you are referring to?

For some reason I thought it was 2.5 all the way.... Welp... I've made up my mind now... I want on your list...

They are referring to the URD Rotrex supercharger kit offered from URD.

All it takes is reading post 1 from the link on my sig and determining what you want. If you are in Tulsa you are only 3.5 hours away from Wichita Falls, TX. If you are in the area let me know so we can chill and I can show you what I do. Also, we can install it when you are ready (fitting to current exhaust) if you don't mind the drive and helping with labor. Tool usage is free but I do require mas cerveza's while working. :D

Damn, so I just came across this post after ordering AFE long tube headers 48-46001-1HC and their y-pipe 48-46006-rc

    https://afepower.com/afe-power-48-4...y-pipe-2-in-to-3-in-409-stainless-steel-w-cat

Is this same part TacoTuesday1 is referring to? Now I'm concerned about fitment issues. I'm not sure what config "long 6MT RA60F" (TacoTuesday1's) is, mine is an '09 access cab, 4.0L, OR, Manual trans. Couldn't find TacoTuesdays1 original post

Also I don't know what other options there are (with cats) for y-pipe if there is indeed a fitment issue. I'd go OEM but it's way too expensive.
