Thanks! Putting it inside was my first thought but this is simpler.
Thanks! The builder liked another model from the same company, but these had better R value and were less money. We're pleased with the look. I might have liked more glass but I'm putting plenty of lighting inside so that will have to do.

Yeah the electrician (!!!) who put that in said it may need to be replaced every few years. If/when that happens I may look into something more robust.

Welcome Doug. Not only fun but mod them and do actual work around the homestead with them.

You can buy a rebuild kit that takes care of that for around $30. Easy to do, just shut the water off and spin the spigot top off.

I thought I could rebuild mine, too. It was way too bad. I changed to a freeze free faucet coming from inside the cabin basement.
And digging up the hydrant ... PITA.

BTW. It is not my water. I have really good water. Some testers have thought that their machine was broken when they tested water in our area. Blessed to have awesome water quality.

The unreplaceable parts do wear after a while. Digging up a hydrant is the pits. I used work digging up fire hydrants...by hand. Glad those days are over.

I'm not sure why they don't just put a ball valve down there. I've had really good results with them on outdoor faucets.
