Yea it was sweet but some trails on the other side were extremely hard to navigate and ended up in a dead end. So grabbed a snack and went to memorial park after. 23 miles in a day ain’t bad.

Kinda getting bored though. Need some longer and more difficult trails. Probably gonna drive somewhere far this weekend to try a new park out

Rocky Hill Ranch in Smithville and then Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda are fairly close drives from you....not sure how much trail length is at RHR but BCR is 9 mile loop. Both places are less than 30 minutes from one another IIRC. I know they have a race where they ride loop at BCR then road ride from there to RHR and ride loop there. That should keep the boredom at bay....Carry extra water! .............or Flat Rock Ranch if you wanna drive - Between Kerrville and Boerne - Great trails and scenery

    https://www.flatrockranchtx.com/

    or make another selection..........

    https://www.singletracks.com/Texas-bike-trails_42.html

scroll down and sort list by length or difficulty or whatever............go wild!

Hill Country State Natural Area is kickass too - 40 miles of black diamond - Bandera, TX

    I bought a 2019 Trek X-Cal 8. Pretty decent hardtail.

I swapped the rotors for 180mm ICETECHs and changed out the tires for a pair of tubeless Maxxis Minion DHFs

I have a 2015 xcal and the only thing I hate is the coil fork. And the price it cost to upgrade it/ new wheels.

X-Cal 7s come with coil fork. The 8s have a RockShox 30 air fork with lockout.

I think the only major thing I would change is to dump the double chainring setup. I think I’ve used the big one like twice. I think I’m going to swap to a single chainring setup for a dropper post and then use the internal cable routing holes for the dropper post remote. As it stands, the seat really gets in the way when you have to get low.

    Yeah.
Wait @jeff b, is the e-bike the vape or the bong?

I rented a Giant hardtail several years ago in Ruidoso, NM that had a coil fork on it and took it up to opening week for the first new trail at Ski Apache (no local rentals for full-suspension at the time). That thing was dangerous, but luckily the one trail was relatively smooth and mild. But still, at speed, that thing didn't track worth a dang, pretty sure a fully rigid would have been better. There was a dude up there on an old Schwinn, chain lock wrapped around his seat post, Chihuahua in his backpack. He was taking GoPro video for his sister that was doing the advertisement for the new trails, he was a hoot. Rode up the gondola with me once and freaked out that he had lost his phone -- it was in his hand. Pretty sure he knew what a bong was.

    To add to this list:

    Spider mountain
    Reveille peak ranch
    Flat creek crossing
    Cameron Park

Freeride512 is a separate section at Rocky Hill Ranch http://www.freeride512.com/ read through the site to get an idea of what it's about.

Bring a TON of water no matter where you go. I was out at RPR last weekend and I about died out there in the heat.

SM, RPR, and FRR are my favorite spots. Just be sure and have Trailforks up as it's easy to get lost.

I’m probably gonna check some out Sunday! I can’t go crazy crazy cause #noinsurance lol and I’m a welder so I can’t break any bones but I’m doing as much as I can. Finally getting more comfortable where I’m just sending it off obstacles and drop offs.

Just did my first attempt at hauling butt around cypress creek (legs were still sore from Tuesday’s ride) and took a few pics

If that is the case definitely take it slow. SM, RPR, FRR, CP, and FCC all have actual descents (Texas sized :p, I know anyone reading with any real elevation is chuckling) compared to anything in Houston. Couple that with all of them being very rocky/loose, and you can get over your head quickly if you are not expecting it.

Arrival, Rad Company, unReal, not bad, where the trail ends. It’s been a while but I think they all have a mix of riding. I’m a fan of anything with Brandon Semenuk. I think a new one came out a few months ago called return to earth, haven’t seen it yet.

Me and a buddy are gonna check out Rockyhill ranch or free ride tomorrow actually now! I’m not sure what the difference between the 2 are but I’m gonna pack a cooler and spend all day there hopefully. Thanks a lot for the suggestion. The map layout for rocky hill looks killer.

The Freeride512 is a separate section of Rockyhill. I have not actually been to either, but from what I hear about Rockyhill its mostly climbing and XC type trails (other than the FR512 section). I'll be curious to hear what you think about it.

To ride the FR512 portion, you actually need a membership. It's free to ride the first time, but after that you either need to pay for a day pass or pay for the year. Also, you need to have a waiver filled out on the website I linked before you ride there. If you have a specific question you can ask them on their facebook page.

I messaged RHR to ask about the difference and their reply was

“RHR is Singletrack and such. 512 is a freeride park. That you will need sign their waiver and pay separate. It’s located on the ranch But operated by a different group”

So I’ll likely try both if I can. I’m still getting comfortable with jumps so the 512 might be too much actually judging by their crazy pics. But with it only 50 minutes from the house and only $10 to get in then might as well try it out
