Took all my camping gear out, and washed the bedmat. Was starting to mold some because of all the chili that got dumped on it due to having to abandon camp in a hurry. IMG_20190817_104246907_HDR.jpg

Black and white striped animals that werent zebras wouldnt leave my campsite alone. Despite blasting my cadilac horns or shining lightbars at them. They left just long enough for me to throw all my gear and dirty dishes in the bed and gtfo to a hotel. Chili in the bed was sure better than getting sprayed by one.

Got some slight vibes and higher pitched howl when I hold the gas pedal just so. Now notice this. What's going on? Just put new to me 4.56 gears in. I may have overfilled slightly since the axle was on jack stands but this wouldn't cause this right? Is this the pinion bearing making noise/vibes and seal leaking?

Looks good. My impulse red camper doesnt match the truck either, as I think its actually sunfire red pearl instead of impulse red. How much did it run you? Mines peeling really bad on the top.

Thanks man! I bought a paint gun and did it myself. Think I had about $175 is gun, paint/clear and supplies. Definitely a learning experience. Considering starting to work on the rest of the truck sometime, but it needs some body work which will be another learning time for me

Be worth checking out...I've messed with those brackets before, in fact I was getting some clanking from my leafs when turning because those brackets were too loose and letting the top leaf hit it which made an interesting sound that I couldn't figure out for a long time lol. Was so happy when I got that one to go away.

The other noises are definitely the bushings though, but since they got worse after putting the silicone grease in them it ended up going away one day and hasn't come back since. Fingers crossed

My shackle bushings are still noisy AF though

Definitely a leaking pinion oil seal. Quite a big leak by the looks of it. Does it drip when its parked?

The higher pitched howl that changes depending on load (accell/decell) is a gear mesh issue. Not a good sign.

Did you setup the new gears yourself in your 3rd (regear)? Or did you swap in a whole 3rd with gears already in it?

Well... I didn't actually do anything to my 1st gen today. But I drove it to a HAM cram where @foxrcing07 and I and our significant others all passed the HAM tech license test.

I didnt notice dripping when parked. Just did a 200ish mile trip and had to add 1/3 of a quart every 70 miles.

I bought them used from a member on here. I am not sure if he set them up or if ECGS did. The noise definitely is there upon accel/decel (pressing or letting off the gas mostly). Also if I'm around 45-50 mph and hold the accelerator juuust so, it makes a whine. It doesn't seem to make a whine at higher or lower speeds than that range, even under higher torque loads.

So the pinion bearing isn't the issue? It is something related to the gear install?

I was going to do the same this weekend, but with it being my first application I was going to remove the bed and get everything I could. But of course I was only able to remove the two most rear fasteners. So tomorrow it looks like I'll be cutting the remaining 4 bolts.
