Was originally stuck on bilstein 5160s and 6112s with the rxt multi rate leaf spring. I'm going to be installing 255/85/r16 st maxx (regardless of suspension setup). Now I'm thinking of Icon stage 3 with the rxt.... but I'm reading more and more about Icons shit customer service and about the bilsteins wearing out. I'll have a snugtop rebel canopy on soon, do some hauling and towing, and want to be able to hit some trails moderately aggressive if I want to, but will be doing 90% street driving. Wanting to keep the suspension cost around 3k or less. Thoughts? TIA

My recommendation is to get the 255/85/16 tires first, and run them with the stock suspension for a while. You may discover that you don't want or need a lift after all. Saving you a lot of money and headaches. Search skinny tires for lots of information on this.

I agree with this. 255s will work w/o a lift if you run them on the stock wheels.

But if you must lift it, Im more than pleased with my 6112/5160 set up on Dakars. I would avoid Icon and go with Fox at that price point. I've read and seen enough about Icon, their leaks, and their service. I've also talked with more than one shop that would agree with what we see here.

Thanks for the advice. Are Fox's rebuildable if I go that route? I've heard about Dakars squeaking like hell, how do you like yours? Still confused on full vs mini pack. What would be the best setup for my situation? Thanks guys.

I did SPC UCAs. I personally prefer ball joint UCAs, so the options were the SPCs or JBA. I wanted the JBAs more because I wanted to try something other than SPC, even though Ive never had an issue with them.
The JBAs have a larger surface area around the ball joint though and I was concerned with tire clearance since I have 0 offset wheels, so SPC it was.

6112s with the Bilstein 600# springs that come with, and Dakar HD in the rear.

I will note that the SPCs are adjusted to the +2 position and resulted in a caster of 4.2 w/o any adjustment.

So i hopefully switched my mind for the last time. I mentally feel settled with the kit i chose, just now figuring out the small options. Decided to go with the OME kit all around, but instead of Dakars i decided on the ixon RXT. Marie at headstrong was so informative and helpful with the decision. Decided on the OME for quality and consistency of reviews. This is what I'm going with, tell me what you think.

    OME coils (886)

OME nitrocharger sport struts (90021 soft)

OME trim packer (for drivers side lean)

OME nitrocharger sport rear shocks – 60091

    Icon RXT leaf packs

    Strut and Coil assembly

SPC Light Racing ball joint upper control arms

Had the Dakar’s for some miles now and zero squeak. I lube them very well and also bought the Dobson greasable bolts for the front eye of the leaf packs. 20 bucks a bolt, but seem to do well.

I also have the 6112s and I’ve never heard of wearing. But I do think they are a bit firm compared to most other shock set ups I’ve tried and used.. almost unforgiving at times with the firmness. I’m on the 4th notch but I’ve also been in trucks using different brands cranked to the max height and they didn’t feel as firm as the 6112s.
Overall I like them, but I plan on saving up and checking out other options in the future

very happy with the RXT's at option 2 for my 500# camping load on moderate tracks
only slight squeak after a few months (as all will do) - boeshield quiets them for a while 'till they get dirty again, then i re-apply
check into the RXT threads for more info if you have not already...

Looks good, 886 with the RXT should make the truck look pretty level. I have a co-worker that's has them. Says they ride comparable to the dakar HDs with about 2-300lbs in them, so smoother than a stock HD leaf pack. I would have done them but I prioritized total load capacity over the ride quality. Either way, mine feel great so if the RXTs are better, then Im sure you'll be pleased.
