You have a high deductible insurance plan and don't have the money to cover your part of it? Then what?
Will you be denied surgery and just die?

Will they let you pay out a payment plan?

If you sign on the dotted line to pay out the payment plan but later cannot keep paying said amount, will you be hounded and have your wages garnished?

Anybody been through anything like this?

100% they have a credit plan to break it down into installments. I'd personally mortgage the house or sell off assets depending on how big.

We pay mega taxes in Canada but are blessed to avoid this worry. I actually double insure when I trip to the US lol.

No worries... you’ll die in Canada waiting for any life saving services. Your healthcare is a joke.

Sounds like a great movie, or two. Real life, not so much.

Finance it and worry about it later. Your other option is to die so it is what it is. I'm type 1 diabetic and have been through all different financial situations over the 22 yrs I've had it. I've always found a way..

So you don't believe what I am telling you? I happen to have a $6000 deductible. That is ALL my company offers as insurance.

What life saving surgery are you putting off because you can't pay your deductible?

I just had Reconstructive knee surgery after a bad fall/landing, they billed me after the surgery. Id check with the facility doing the surgery, sometimes they have a financial assistance program that can reduce the out of pocket cost for you 90%.

Also, I fell behind on a survey payment plan before... one call to the billing financial department had my plan started over. Payments stretched out over 36 months.

I've worked for several hospitals the last 25+ yrs and never seen anyone denied needed surgery for lack of ability to pay. Especially for an amount as small as $6K. I doubt you'll be left on the streets to die. As I said though, pretty sure I've seen a movie or two along those lines.

You'll tell the hospital you can't pay all the bill. They'll ask what you can pay. You'll give them a ridiculously low number. They'll right off part of the bill and let you pay a very small amount every month.

So basically we pay it off if we are unlucky enough to come down with something, whereas you pay it off regardless?

I was denied surgery to break up a kidney stone because I did not have the $10k at the time and no insurance, was told I HAD to have it or risk the kidney Dying due to size of the stone.(told it was at the extreme limit of passable) when I told them I could not afford it. they told me they was marking me down as refusing treatment, so they could not be sued. good thing was about 3 week later I passed that massive bitch.

while not life threating, right away, it could have had the potential to be life altering

I made up my mind not to give a damn about the $$$$. I just rang up a $5000 emergency room bill this week. They will work with what I can pay or do what they have to do. I simply don't care. I have been working and paying my taxes since I was 16 years old. I am not going to risk my health because of the greedy stinking people that make these decisions are in charge.
