Yeah, I just searched my local listings and there were a few of them around $42k.

Agree no way a sport should be 42k. Most of the stuff they add on isn't worth the price you paid (plus interest if you're financing). Much better off getting zero add ons and picking what you want in the aftermarket. Are there no "plain" trucks in your area?

You can get a Pro with MT for around $42k.

Off road feels nicer but neither are terrible from what I've driven. Automatic transmission isn't as bad as people say and only gets better with newer years.

Any particular reason you want the sport over the off road? IMO the OR is a much better deal at the same MSRP but with more capability, suspension, and crawl features in the AT. Plus everyone has an OR and I would imagine selling one down the like would be easier than a sport?

No I'm open to either the sport or off road. Need an automatic because wife can't drive manual.....already have one car that's a manual and can't drive.. there seems to have more sports on the lot than off roads.

If you don't prefer one or the other, I still think the OR is the better value for money. Any of your dealers around willing to play ball? Of course, every location is different, but here in Denver I had 4 or 5 other dealers who were offering me more than the 1000 + 750 incentives off MSRP right on their website. I did have to enter some of my personal data to get the "best price" and just went with the lowest dealer. Went in and they were still willing to negotiate price a bit more. Sure you might feel weird for an hour or so trying to negotiate a truck that typically doesn't have sales or steep discounts but its worth a try. It's not like these are redesigns that just came out with everyone hopping on them.
