Access cab dog platform

I've been planning on building one myself in my access cab, though I really don't want to lose my back seats. Part of the crazy idea I had was installing a pair of tie down tracks and finding an old seat and tie it down to it sideways. You guys think I'm on crack for even considering this?

 

yeah, just install an easily removable one like I did. Mine folds up and lifts out. Takes longer to open the doors than to remove it.

 

I'll definitely base it off your work because it looks great. But the sideways seat thing was mores just to give my extra passenger more leg room... though if I were to ever get in a bad accident I doubt my tie downs would be strong enough XD

 

See blue vinyl platform in above post. I built it overtop of the drop down seats.

 

I've been driving my 2017 for two years and didn't even know the backs would fold down that far!

 

The middle head rest is a bitch to get out. The front seats can’t slide all the way back when down so if you’re tall it won’t work for ya!
The bottom of the seats have slots in them for the headrest to slide into

 

If I had a bus I would take the back seats out.

 

Sadly I had to say goodbye to my boy last week.... it’s been hard af. I can’t bring myself to wash the slobber off the windows and dash let alone remove the platform.

 

Good job! Love how flat the seats fold in the DC but this would work for my dog too!

Saw your platform when I first got my Taco late last year and finally getting around to posting what it inspired me to build.

I'm 6' 3", so the driver's seat is all the way back. Eventually I'll do a version2 with pull-outs or doors to access both the built-in storage and the foot-wells.

 

I bet your dog appreciates what you have done. Note, I suggest getting a sliding rear window. That way she is not trying to stick her head over your shoulder and out the side window. It took me a few weeks to figure out that opening the rear window is what my dog really wanted.

 

The dog likes it, but more importantly so does the wife! Adding a sliding rear window is a good idea and I hadn't considered that. I got the Utility Package as I was buying the truck under duress (my previous vehicle had been deemed undriveable) so that was what was available and in my price-range at the time. I've been compiling a list of upgrades such as intermittent wipers, and I'll add the back window to that list now. Thanks!

Those platforms in an access cab would be great for everyday stuff, groceries, or anything else you don’t want to haul in the bed, for whatever reason.

 

I’m 5’3 and I don’t have a dog but this is a great idea when I need to sleep in the back. My mattress pad would make that very comfortable!
