Yeah yeah I know lol. The guy in the low range video said you could use pliers if you didn't have the tool, and he wasn't wrong but...it was a bitch to get off with pliers and damn near impossible to get back on. So I just used some steel zip ties, but they work just fine

All this talk about tie rod ends makes me want to take care of mine on my truck.

Pending mods are; install Frontrunner cage for the water jug, install Wilco Tiregate, find remaining parts for 4x4 conversion, and maybe for some stupid reason...long travel if I feel I "need" it.

No time for other cars :boink:

@Area51Runner since I bought an RTT about 2 weeks ago now, I've got an extra Nemo inflatable sleeping pad you can borrow

Not a time consuming job really, well - not if the threads don't screw you up. hahaha

If you haven't already replaced the rack bushings, I'd do them at the same time. Once I had the rack bushings, inner and outers changed out I noticed a difference. That was before the lift of course. All of that and new UCAs, damn if it doesn't handle like it was new again.

Watching your conversion to 4LO with anticipation, hopefully be able to use it as a blueprint.

I saw a guy on youtube take a measurement from the frame rail to the stud on the outter tie rod as a way of getting around the thread length issue. As long as you dont move your steering wheel, its a better method than counting turns.

Yeah; I took care of major maintenance IE lower ball joints, radiator, lower control arm bushings, suspension, etc.

More I read, more I figure I still have left to do.

You have a Prerunner? Here I am assuming I'm 1 or 3 Prerunners on the forum going off-road.

I'm going to be taking extra pictures and posting in hopes that it helps alleviate the need for a million questions.

The other threads I've run into so far have a great deal of information, but are really lacking in pictures to help differentiate one item from another IE front diff for instance, from an ADD or a J shift truck, etc.

Wheeling buddy is buying a vacation home that will be Airbnb when nobody is there and asked if I want in. On one hand vacation home sounds legit on the other hand I don't want to overcomplicate our friendship or anything.

Going to get more details but I will likely decline and offer to pay if I ever ask to use it :)

interesting, didn't see that one when I was researching. I did have that steering wheel locked off big time. Until I started messing with it due to the difference in threads. Loosened it up and of course it moved... yep, that was it - alignment botched. lol

Yep, 02 PreRunner. Aside from the rear bumper and possibly sliders (have to keep the wife complaints about the missing running boards to a minimum), all that is really left is a conversion to 4wd. Kind of toying with the idea of going with ADD even though it would be more involved. If I could find a 2002 donor truck, I'd snatch the whole thing in a heartbeat.

That 04 you tagged me about would've been your ticket there!

I just insist on having manual hubs.

Right now, I'm working on an electrical project. Added x2 20w pods to driver, passenger and soon rear of roof rack. Ordered a new radio to replace the stock and also ordered a below radio switch panel and fuse/relay panel for the engine bay.

Need to figure out my wiring approach as I want the rack lights accessible from the cab of course but also from the back in the Leer cap. Want to go with something similar to this for the rear of the cap - switches on the panel to use lighting -

nah unless they're obviously really bad then I'd just wait and do them when you do your 4x4 conversion since you're likely going to have all that stuff taken apart mostly anyhow

Actually, I only bought the first set of parts (assembled hubs/axles/spindles) from the guy that posted in the 1st Gen Section asking about a manual hub swap; I PM'ed him an offer and he took it.

I know I offered more than I should've, but hey, gotta pay to play right?

Somewhere, someplace both of their insurance company reps just felt a disturbance in the force
