Hi all - I just put 33s on and now have the stupid shark fin scraping the roof at the airport garage. I’ve seen that there are some options with Gen 2s to replace with a low profile version .... anybody have any luck with a Gen 3? I’d love to get an inch or 2 clearance back by swapping for something shorter. TIA

@MESO or there is a thread hiding around here showing how to chop and fill it or if you don't use the XM bull, you can eliminate that antenna and get a little puck for FM.

Had to check it out, it’s the first I’ve heard of collaboration with Meso. Granted I don’t have any racks but that’s pretty nice

I’m seriously considering separating from the shark fin to get better antennas. The FM and the XM antennas in my shark fin have terrible reception. I assume it’s water infiltration, but a loaded FM, vs a dipole or even a vertical just can’t be any good. My XM is so bad they have credited me months of service. It’s just not sensible technology to squeeze all those antennas in there and expect good performance. It’s not the way radio waves work at these frequencies and polarization.

To install a cab over camper and still be able to use XM and navigation, I plan on replacing the satellite antenna as detailed here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sirius-antenna-relocation.420350/#post-19701838

And purchasing an older Toyota antenna to use as a "plug" to replace the current shark fin:
    https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-gps-antenna-8696004040

Pictures and instruction to replace the shark fin with the older antenna can be found here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...shark-fin-with-a-oem-satellite-stubby.552228/

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this yet, so I can't confirm that it works. I'll check back in when I get around to doing this mod...

    Good luck!

I saw a build a while ago where a guy just chopped off the top like 1" of the antenna and just filled it with epoxy, if you're looking for a cheaper solution than buying a whole new antenna. I this issue when installing my prinsu rack.
