So its been a while since I've posted here and I wish it was for a better reason but oh well, I need help. Back in December of 2017 I had the same issue and they had to replace that infamous blower connector and plug the burns out and the Toyota sales guy swore up and down that the replacement would be a much better part. I'm not stupid and I know he is going to talk up the product he is selling me but shouldn't the replacement that is "so much better" last longer than a year and a half if the "crappy original" (His words not mine) lasted almost 10 years? I went in today and talked to the service rep and the part only had a one year warranty so I'm boned there. Do I have any chance if I bitch enough to the Toyota GM or service manager of getting this comped? I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass but come on. Any input or advice is appreciated. Also I know its the same part because I pulled the plug out and half of it was black

Unrelated Pink Tacoma I saw the other day to grab your attention

Most things are only warranted for a year. To be honest I think most of what causes the issue is passengers feet that press on the connector causing looseness and burning.

Cheap part and cheap fix. Not worth the effort IMO. :goingcrazy:

I think it's more aggravation than it's worth. The warranty is usually 12 monthes, and it's been a year..l agree that having a new part only last a year and a half is BS. But again, it's okay warranteed for max one year.

If it didn't last as long, that would tell me the problem wasn't really fixed, and it may not have been the part they replaced that is the problem.

I'm not super familiar with this issue in general, but if I remember right, the connector overheats? Did they get the contacts nice and clean before they put it back together? If the contacts were all messed up and it was arcing, that would explain the short life of the new part. Pics?

I wish I would've taken pictures but its already at Toyota right now and i can't exactly drive up there . I had the same concern about it being something else and the service rep said he would have them make sure they check the whole system out

The Dorman version of that 4 prong resistor contraption is like $24, in stock at O'Reillys.

I'll buy one of those every 18 mo and NGAF...

I'm not sure if the blower motor was ever replaced when you replaced the connector but I highly recommend replacing the blower motor when you replace the connector. Even though the motor is working, it can likely draw too much amperage that's causing the connector to heat up and eventually melt and fail.

You can buy a replacement connector and wiring off Amazon for around $20, you have to splice it into the old harness though. I am about to do this to mine, the wiring on it is larger though. Any one know if the larger wiring on the new connector will cause any issues with the smaller wiring on the oem harness?

Common problem GM was famous for that it's a poor connection at the blower resistor causing high resistance if they did not replace the blower resistor it will surely do it again.

As someone who deals with customers daily...yes. It is POSSIBLE to make yourself such a nuisance that they just try to get rid of you. But it is a fine line and you need to make sure you use a lot of public awareness on the part. So research the part and how often it has issues and then the one you were given. I would never trust a stealership. Anyone who writes “shop supplies” on an oil change estimate is not to be trusted.

You could change it yourself in less time than it took to make/montior this thread and deliver/pick up your truck.

And do it for a price that would allow it to be done about 5x over a 1x dealer price.

Definitely sue the passenger. If you have more than one, go for the whole crowd.

I put some thought into this now. If you were naked, sitting 'indian style, pulled your legs hard under and curled your toes around as far back as you could, then rolled onto your back, and they had a Gene Simmons tongue, I believe it could be done.

    Also I just got hard.

Jesus Christ what happened to this thread, and why are we getting rim jobs?

He was refering to me because I said I haven't been here in a while.

I'm not actually gonna go bitch at them for a hour, not worth my time and it isn't the service reps fault so I don't want to be that guy. Regardless if you think i was cheated or not I feel like I got ripped off buying the same part in a year in a half. They looked and said they couldn't find anything else wrong so I'm just gonna go with JimmyH's theory about my buddies kicking it and I'm gonna get it fixed. I guess my friends have to sit in the back now because I can't trust those bastards
