I took a piece of flat bar steel and made my own extension bracket off the ditch lights for my antenna. Easy solution for a few dollars from a home improvement store.

I suspect it not to be a power interference because if I disconnect the coax, the static stops

RFI is horrible in my Gen3 tacoma. Sounds like fuel injectors to me.

It comes through the antenna. Try torroids, and making sure all grounds are at the same potential.

Cortico- or anabolic-? Which will get me a lower SWR?

Makes no difference. It’s been doing this for a long time, just in the garage cause it’s boiling hot outside.

    Ok, different strokes I guess.

K0BG has some good tips for RFI.

    https://k0bg.com/rfi.html

I've done most of them, and still can't get rid of noise in my 2017. My antenna tip isn't even attached to my vehichle....

I may have fixed it. I need to get it out of the shop and go drive around to see if it stays fixed. Think I need a better quality coax cable.

Hey dudes, I just got my technicians license and am looking for a good mobile rig. I'm pretty sold on the FTM-400 but don't know much about antennas or placement. I'd like to start doing sweep team for rally up here in the PNW and want to do simple rig-to-rig mobile comms. Should I go for something fold down on my aluminum roof rack or put something on the hood? Shot of my truck for reference. Thanks in advance!

I prefer hood mount especially if you actually use your roof rack, because then an antenna up there is always in the way. Hood mount is "good enough" ground to not have to run a ground strap and depending on your antenna needs can be pretty low profile and unobtrusive and doesn't occupy space used for anything else.

Thanks man! Good point, maybe I'll get one of the folding comet mounts or piggyback on the light pod mounts. I plan on getting light hoops for my bumper soonish, could I put a mast on there like the aussies do or is that a different type of comm system?

I mean, you could, but I feel like that's asking to get ripped off in the brush. I think they do a lot of open desert stuff which makes that more practical. Shit, I don't know. I only piped up because I run a hood mount!

That does make a lot of sense. Honestly, I would 60% do it because it would look cool.

I've got my antenna on a mount that holds ditch lights and antennas (SOS makes them), but I think it's pretty easy to find (or make) an add on metal piece to hold the antenna. Good Luck!

Roof Rack mount has gotten me plenty of range out here in the wide open deserts of Utah, but on the off times I go in the trees, it can get a little dicey.

If you are living in the PNW, I would try a hood hinge mount. I think out on the bumper might be a little more risky, but def adds those #EAF point on the 'gram!
