Buffed & detailed out some pinstripes and had it ceramic coated

My daughter inadvertently added some pinstripes to my pickup when she was out fossil hunting in eastern Oregon. Hit *every* single panel down the driver's side

We'd already agreed she was just going to have the truck detailed for me for letting her borrow it (saved her a $350 car rental). I covered the bump in price for the ceramic kit plus $50.

Had a cow-orker's son who details on the side come take care of it. I buffed the scratches first though in case we had to have any body work done. I got them 98% (swag) out myself so figured a pro would have no problems. He did not have any problems of course!

I took the wheels off and cleaned barrels/outside & coated those myself, did all the glass myself on a different weekend. It's rained here the past couple of days and it's amazing how much the water is beading up & how clean the truck looks vs our other cars that look horrible after rain.

Anyway, a couple of before pics and one after (though I think the main after shot is before I did the glass).

$180 for the detail job, $84 for the ceramic coat kit. He's coming back next weekend to do the wife's little car for $150 (full detail & ceramic coat). I'll do the wheels/glass on that too unless he'll do them for the same $.

 

Looks sharp. FYI. You are getting a super good deal there. I would have told you to booger off for that price.

 

I remember the first car I detailed for money as a kid was a Infiniti QX56. Pearl white with like ten years of iron buildup (this was before Iron-X existed). Spent all day prepping and claying it and the next day doing a one stage polish (orange/205) followed by

Collinite 845 wax. Family friend, paid me $100 ahahaha. Never again. I could have made more money working as a cashier at Walmart with no effort and no expenses on my end. You got a great deal here.

 

I’ve got a few of those from overgrown mountain roads..what kind of buffing technique did you find to be successful? I know there are probably other threads on this topic but I like the outcome you achieved. I have always buffed by hand but choosing the wax/compound based on mixed reviews can be expensive and leave me with a bunch of products that I won’t use haha. Appreciate the feedback! All hail to the access cabs!

 

That's an insanely low price for paint correction and ceramic. How'd it come out? How about the wife's car?

Guess I wasn't subscribed to this so didn't see it til now. I went with what one of the detailing shops recommended when I was readingup on buffing out headlights for my vette a few years ago: use the least amount of grit/power you can so it takes less steps. That said, I started out with the lightest I have (Meguiar's fine cut polish I think). I don't remember how much further I went as that wasn't working super great on the deep stuff. Pretty sure I got most of it out with rubbing compound. I used a hobo freight dual action 6 or 7" buffer on it too btw.

 

He did a great job on the scratches on the pickup. He did not do a great job on the interior of the truck nor on the interior of the Prius. It looked good and he did the cquk 3.0 ceramic on the Prius but I do a better job of mini detailing interior doors, sills, hatch inside, seats etc. on a normal wash than he did. All in all still a great value though and I fully appreciate his work at $30/hour cash
