Most importantly in sand is to go slow and stop often. You know, so you can get stuck and use all the deadman anchors and bubba ropes you spent all your paychecks on :D

Yep that's about it. You'll find 2nd and 3rd are actually much better than 4th though at least :)

I had two different experiences with 87 FOB. It was my first tune load and again as my last before 2.0 Beta. The feel above 1,000 to 1,500 was about the same, but the second time, idle upto 1,500 was way better. I didn't feel that anything was missing as far as power, but I was stalling at least once per day. In the 2,000mi or so since loading 87 FOB and 2.0 Beta, I've stalled twice total. Something just wasn't right about that first tune load.

On FOB, I could lay into it at 2k in 6th and it would surge ahead. The rev range was a bit lumpy, but nothing like 04B13. I sort of forget 04B12 other than having to pay frenetic attention to every shift for it to be normal and smooth.

I would like to bump back down to compare, but the normalness and consistency of 2.0 has me being very content. I will certainly give 2.0 FOB / performance a run if we get it, but I could be happy for life with a finished version of the current 2.0 Beta.

    Notes:

-- I am completely stock as far as wheels, weight, armor, and such.
-- We have 87 and 92 at Costco, so I have only sampled 87 Beta.
-- After the first 120 or so miles, valve knock on hot days as been completely gone for the first time with this truck. Stoked there.
-- I have a bit of surge / lash getting on and off the gas in higher gears / lower RPMs. I think this is some of the missing polish of the full release?
-- I have experienced Rev Hang a few times, but it falls fast enough that the revs are about where they should be for the next gear. Sort of an auto-blip, if you will. :D I would prefer them to fall faster to allow me to rev match, but I could live with it if this is the best that it can be.
-- Low gear / low RPM coasting seems to be consistent. I haven't had an opportunity to do it as often as before though, due to some traffic improvements at the usual spot.
-- MPGs are up and getting best ever for full tanks just doing normal commutes and such. Before, my best tanks were only on long trips. In it for right around 1,000mi, I think everything has now stabilized.

i have two things to report to you guys.

first, the Core shifter is totally nuts. this is a maximum mechanical tight notchy experience. the throw is less than it was with the URD SS kit, which claimed 40% throw reductions, while the Core claims something like 30%, but the throws are a bit shorter with the Core. this is in another category from the URD SS kit, so there is no comparison at all. i almost didn't get this thing due to some difficulty with the vendor a few months back, but luckily he forgot about me when i tried again to purchase a few months later. if any of you guys appreciate removing slop from the clutch line with the ADM, and if you don't like the soft play or slop in the Toyota shifter, this is for you. hands down.

the second thing is this if anyone is curious: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-frame-brace-kit.610921/page-16#post-21391871

i didn't do it, but it was less drama than trying to install the URD SS apparently.

    Nice work!

Maybe the vendor loosened up his attitude a bit?

It's not horrible, but still a little of a pain. The two front bolts require a ratcheting wrench and some "asian fit" hands. Or trimming the tunnel.

i hear the only point to deal with is using a wobble extension on the ratchet for the front bolts in the tunnel. i think i saw that mentioned by someone here on TW.

i like the powdercoat idea. i have plenty of leather so I'm just keeping that going.

I'll do the wrap bit, install my tall knob, and then take measurements for the next stop: @7r41lbr34k3r :DIMG_20190823_152941.jpg IMG_20190823_152956.jpg

here's after a little treatment. holdover until i get a new knob.

Not sure if my little brother is for sale.....but we usually send him in when you require that size person.
He is great for getting in the back of the Rally car, through all them cage bars....
