Yes. The crash bar behind the bumper is metal.

Have no idea how that bully bar mounts, but there is metal behind the bumper cover.

    I'm bucking that trend!

(It would look so stupid hanging off the plastic plate holder box)

Bonus: I could go directly to the holes on the plastic bumper drilled by dealer for said holder box, but need to drill bully bar to match! :D

One of my friends has one on his subie and it does alright. For on the street id does just fine. Baja Designs makes a similar mount:

I drilled a couple holes in the bar mount. It's just hanging from plastic. Ugg.

Should make for a decent winch mount.

I have one of these cheasy things laying around that I was going to use on my old envoy. Any lamp on one of these will bounce all over the place!

I also intended to try to make a bracket behind the plastic bumper on the envoy. But I lost interest.

Something that you might want to be aware of. The chin piece on the 3rd Gens clips into the rest of the bumper. No fasteners. You can see this in some of parking lot crash pics or the slimline bumper threads. I am not sure what the energy absorbing piece is made of behind the chin piece that attaches to the structural bumper. Maybe some long screws will get some bite into that?

But! Having a piece of metal sticking out like a small pendulum might unclip your chin piece, esp off road. Early on, the chin piece could be seen with a bit of gap and would move around. They may have improved that as time went on.

Rest assured it is no longer hanging off the truck. There is no metal to attach to for a LONG distance. Suffice to say this thing is just a no go, unless one were to remove the plastic chin piece and fab a structural mount underneath.
