    Hello all,
Have a very small chip in my front windshield. Wondering if its a good idea to have an auto glass company repair the chip before its a crack. I’ve heard the 3rd gen windows are pricy. I don't use the go pro mount but wondering if the replacement windows have it or not. I see our area has safelite auto glass and a local shop. Rated similarly.

How small is the chip? if its smaller than a nickle and hasn't spidered, i would just pay to get it repaired. Most of the repairs i've ever gotten have been 90% covered and you could barely notice unless you really tried looking. Of course unless your ins has a 0 comp deductible, then i would just replace.

i have a crack on my windshield that is about 12" long and i had it repaired for $100. from the outside it's hard to tell unless youre 2 ft away but from the inside it's more obvious.

i was quoted $250 to get an OE replacement windshield but decided to wait until i get another chip or crack before i go that route.

The best way to repair a windshield is to replace it...if you have full coverage insurance your out of pocket expense should be zero if not find another insurance carrier because your getting screwed on the premium.

Get it repaired stat. Couple weekends ago I was out of town at the gulf coast, got a chip, by the time I went to return home, it had cracked into a foot long question mark.

I got the windshield replaced with the after market go pro mount for around 300$, the OEM glass costs around 1k.

If the damaged occurred 24 months or less from the date of vehicle purchase then the insurer would be required to use oem which is the law in my state and other states as well but not all states.

Most insurance companies will cover the cost of repairing a small rock chip as opposed to replacing the entire windshield. And it will not be considered filing a claim. Shouldn't cost you a penny & no repercussions from your insurer. Call your insurance company or just show up at any auto glass shop with your insurance info in hand & someone should get you fixed up.

I used that on my wife's car to prevent a large crack from getting worse while she was still commuting 120 miles on the highway a day. I knew it was only for a few more months so i didn't want to replace the windshield only to have another rock chip so i used it and it prevented the crack from getting worse but it didn't hide it as well as professionally.

I did the RainX DIY solution on my 2007 Camry and the chips are hardly visible. I highly recommend it. Cheaper than having someone else do it and will probably last just as long. IMO
