Anyone using these tires in 265/70/17s on 17" SEMA wheels on a stock 3rd gen TRD OR Taco?

Considering moving up to 17" from the 16" wheels and was wondering if there was any rubbing issue to expect.

Just installed some 265/75r16 10ply falkens! Really enjoyed the ride, super smooth and no balancing issues yet.
Here are my cheap poser shots.

C-load rides beautifully. Just mounted them and I am amazed at the difference.

1st set - 5K miles. Falken WP 285/75-16 E-rated. -Super stiff and tons of rub.

2nd set - 45K miles. Falken WP 265/75-16 P-Metric. Too spongy/bouncy. Too small. They worked great in all conditions (especially the snow) and had tons of tread left when I replaced them with

#3 255/85-16 8K miles. COOPER STT Maxx E-rated. Perfect size. Too stiff. Wandered right. No rub. 8,000 miles

    #4 275/70-17 Falken WP C-rated. PERFECT!

Looks like the 285-75-16 weighs in at 60.6 lbs vs 57.1 lbs for the 275-70-17. Do you think the weight contributed to the ride stiffness at all?

The reason I ask is because I'm still deciding between 285-70-17 C @62.8 lbs vs. 285-70-17 E @58.9 lbs. It's a 3.9 lb difference per tire. If the C is a lot less stiff compared to the E then I may just suck it up and get the heavier tire for a much better ride quality.

No. Not at all. It’s all the load rating. There is no wrong choice if you’re making the choice consciously. Here is a cut and paste from a debate I had in this thread about load ratings.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-tires-will-i-get.623205/#post-21403136

Our trucks are not heavy enough for E rated tires. Even heavily armored it’s still not heavy enough for E-rated tires. I do air down. I even have to run 30-32 psi on the street or the rear traction sucks in the rain.

A lot of people like E-rated tired because they can air down considerably and that’s ok. It’s even required for what some people do with their trucks. However, the OP stated use doesn’t indicate that he want to run 12psi and wheel his truck where max traction and puncture resistance is required.

Some people also buy E-rated because they are too cheap to spend the extra money on C-rated tires since they are considerably more expensive.

Others buy P-metric because they like a good ride and aren’t super heavy.

I finally managed to flat an E-load yesterday on the trail. :burnrubber:

I took a side trail (Chimney Rock Trail) that quickly turned very narrow with a lot of downed branches (pine) and trunks along the edge of the trail. Due to the narrowness of the trail and the width of my truck I couldn't avoid the smaller bits of debris and I think that's what punctured the upper sidewall. A quick plug fix and I aired it back up to 20psi and it held for another 40+miles of rough trail and another 50+ miles of winding highway back home. Drove another 94 miles today and still holding air.

What's funny is I have watched the sidewalls conform and wrap around rocks and take no damage but sharp sticks are the devil's tool!

Sup guys? My new 2019 TRD OR DCLB with a leveled suspension will be delivered on Wednesday and I'm doing some prelim research on some new tires. The wild peaks seem like they're the most attractive at this point in my research but I can't decide if the stock (265/70/16) is the way to go or to 265/75/16 or 275/70/16. I'm leaning toward the 265/70/16 but worried the level kit will make them look too small. It's a super noob question but does anyone out there have pics of their taco with these specs??

I went to America's Tire and bought the 285 70 17 C's yesterday, even though they weighted more than E's! Can't wait to slap them on this weekend.

Honestly, I would go with the 265 75 16. You'll be much happier.

That will probably be my next tire, or the Geolandar X-AT. The 3-ply sidewall on an AT is nice.

On a related note, there was a paperwork mixup regarding certs on my current 285/70/17E tires and America's Tire (Discount Tire) in Auburn took care of my punctured tire away. Love these folks!

I replaced a set of Yokohama Geolandar AT's with Wildeak AT3's. The Yokohamas were 275/70R16, I went back to stock 265/70R6 with the Wildpeaks. The Falkens look great and handle smoothly and quietly on pavement, wet or dry. Good on dirt/gravel roads. No plans for heavy duty mudding or rocks.
Wheeled and dealed with my regular Discount Tire shop and drove off with four tires with certs for $644.
If their durability is as their good as their looks and performance, they are great truck tires.

I love mine. Discount Tire helped me out last year and I made my choice. 275/65/18 on 0 offset, Addict 2 wheels. Two inch lift coming next weekend.
