Ended up buying a new tank and the cap snaps on a lot more securely. The hose that goes from the cap to the radiator does seem a little long and pushes up on it, so that may have increased the wear. Sounds like many do not have this problem though.

Yeah, that looks like the windshield washer tank. The neck on mine has a bunch of little cracks, but is not leaking. Will probably replace that soon as well.

I was referring to post #19 showing a $14 Tacoma coolant recovery supposedly fitting 95>2004 but it doesn't fit a '96 as I show in post #33 and post# 36.

What you show in post #36 though is a windshield washer reservoir tank...maybe I'm missing something here. The coolant tank and the windshield washer tank are two completely different things on opposite sides of the radiator.

No, you aren't missing anything, as I was just on a different page than everyone else as a result of posting while having several other things on my mind at the same time. :sorry:

I bought this item, made a bracket and plugged in the OEM pump connections. Done. The prior OEM windshield reservoir versions kept cracking plus it was constantly getting rubbed on at full stuff.
I add this as you may use this idea for your issue. The plastic is the same as the overflow tank.

Interesting as my '96 has 413,000 miles on it (on and off road) and the reservoir has never leaked. I did replace it recently as my pump went out so I replaced the reservoir and hoses as well.
