I knew better than to trust that they did a solid job. I checked all my interior lights and all that stuff too. It's way too easy for them to deny shit later down the road.
I plan to see what next week holds before I raise hell. They both seemed very ashamed of what had been done. He made some big promises so only time will tell.
Honestly I'm not sure. It could have been happening for a while and I just never noticed, but after the rack install I noticed the leak. I feel like I would have noticed the amount that it was leaking though. After I tested each bolt location with about 20oz of water per hole, the only leak occurred when I tested the brake light.

You might try loosening the rack to see if the gap closes. If the rack doesn't fit perfectly it may be torquing the roof causing the light mount to distort. Try working this out since it seems to correlate with the leak. The rack situation would need to be corrected. The light was not designed to need a silicone bead, so I would try to work out the cause rather than treat the symptom. If I had to seal something, I would probably use 3m weatherstrip and gasket adhesive rather than some Home Depot silicone.

I'm going to wait and see what Toyota does for me this Friday before I do anything. If I still have a leak after they properly fix the brake light then I will go from there. I'm not touching anything until they clean up that mess though.

I appreciate the advice though as I didn't think about the rack causing the roof to torque in a different direction than it was designed. That's my next step after the light gets fixed, if I still have a leak that is

Post what happens along the way, I'd like to see how it turns out and what the cause ends up being.

Will do after my "service" friday. If it's anything like last week it'll be a disservice

Man, I'm sorry for what your going through. I would demand them to fix it right and call me when it's done, plus a loaner. I feel for you.

It definitely sucks, but some get screwed by the dealer way worse than I am. I have enough sense to double check their work, others take it blindly. We will see what they do this time. They are providing me a loaner for the day and promised me it will be made right. I'm banking off their apology that they won't try any dumb shit this time

Yesterday was a long day. I dropped the truck off at 9am and they gave me a Corolla loaner after they acted like they didn't have any loaner cars for me. Strike one. The service advisor said it should be done a little after noon. Around 1 I hadn't heard anything from them so I called and no one answered. Strike two. Around 2:30 I called again and left a message hoping to get someone's attention. Nothing. Strike three. By this point I was pissed off and exhausted. (I work nights and hadn't been to sleep since 6:30pm Thursday) At 3:40 or so they finally sent me the automated text letting me know my truck was finished.

I had the service advisor and service manager come outside to inspect the job with me. They had cleaned up the mess from last time and installed a new light housing. I dumped a bottle of water over the light while they stood there to insure there was no leak. They both apologized again that I had to come back a second time for a job they should have done correctly the first time.

Overall I left there content that they had resolved the shit they left me with the first time. They even washed the truck for me which was a nice touch, even though they used tire shine on my wheels as well as my tires

Sounds like things worked out I the end. I hope the rack was not the issue and it was just the light causing the leak.

Sorry, I am honestly glad you got this fixed finally (I hope!) but you have to admit, that “professional” job was so bad, it’s actually funny.

Gave the truck another bath to test the possibility of leaks and the inside is dry. Nothing coming down the rear window and all seat belts are dry. Seems like the brake light was the cause. Thanks again everyone for the help
