It's a female katydid. The head and antennae are on the right, the wings are straight back. The abdomen is curled downward and forward, the black sharp blade is the ovipositor, the egg-laying tool. They cut a slit into plants and lay an egg in the slit. They also have their tympana (ears) on the front leg, you can see it as the two light ovals on the leg that is on the right.

 

Came across this wild beast while putting in a new dryer vent.

 

What the heck is that? Is that a cat!?

lol yeah. He heard me down in the crawl space and started swinging at me. Anytime I’m down there he follows the sounds walking around the house.

Motivated by curiosity far more then treats. Even rain, would’ve been a scientist or engineer in another life.

She’s peeking around the wood pile on the right. There is a third cub further up the tree and when I yelled at them, the mom took off and left the cubs.

 

Damn, your truck looks great. Need to run it through that puddle to the rear so it will look mean when you cruse the mall.
