Putting FJ steelies on my 2003 1st gen.. Does anyone here have any experience with a Load range E tire? Does it ride harsh? Is it too heavy of a tire for a stock V6 double cab?

Wish they would make a size that would be equal to the stock TRD wheel package...

    265/70/16 is stock..
I plan on raising her about 2 inches so tire size would stay the same

I really want to use my super nice FJ steelies but they are 17" wheels...

There are 265/70/17 load range C bfg ko2s

Yeah honestly I just used Google maps to test it. There was a new update to it sometime ago in which it tells you how fast you are going. Going 65 it says I'm at 66. Oddly those street speed monitors read out exactly the speed I'm showing on the digital readout on my truck. All in all, nothing significant on speedo reading. In my opinion the C rated tire is a good fit for the Tacoma. Never had Es but have heard from many that they are stiff and of course heavier.

I thank you for your comments... I keep reading that people who go with a lift ( which I plan on through toytec) of about 2-3 inches should go to 285's.. what do you think?

    Thanks again!

I actually have lifted my truck with a toytec left (2 inches, boss 2.5 with resis). I wanted 285s but didn't want to do any chopping or trimming. Stayed with the 265s and have been really pleased. I may go up to 285s down the road but right now I think they are doing a good job and still have a good look to them. Also lost about 1mpg over stock (265 + lift, do have ovtune)

Unless you off road A LOT and need the extra sidewall protection from the extra layers of a load E tire I would not recommend a load E over a Load C tire for a tacoma.

I have my 2nd gen on 265/70/17 load C hankook dynapro atm and have been absolutely in love with the tire.

My work truck is an 02 GMC Sierra 1500 that tows and hauls a lot and sees a lot of dirt roads. I originally had a 265/75/16 load c wrangler kevlar tire on it and I swap those pit to a 265/75/16 load e yokohama geolander tire.

The load c vs load e tire is very noticable in the mannerisms and acceleration of the truck. Load e is heavier so the truck is slower to accelerate and gets worse gas mileage. The ride is stiffer as well. For a ranch truck with a thirsty v8, it doesn't make much of a difference. If I had load e tires on a tacoma, especially a light 1st gen, I feel the extra weight of the load e tire would really impact mpg, acceleration, and ride comfort.

@Bishop2Queens6 not to hijack this thread, but I agree with you on the Hankook Dynapro ATM. I'm on my second set, and won't buy anything else, unless they quit making them.

What do you think about the BOSS lifts/shocks/struts from Toytec? I have been tempted but only have experience with 5100's ( Bilsteins ) which I like a lot.. They give a nice firm ride and eliminate the wobble and wheel hop that plagues most tacomas especially the 1st gen.. makes a much more direct feeling ride with no bounce or jarring harshness. The 1st gen is pretty light but still 4000 pounds on the double cab. I had load range E on my older Wrangler you could feel how heavy they were plus they did not balance well without a large amount of weights..

Load range C it is.. now.. your opinion on the BOSS lifts? Thanks!!

I just installed the C load range on my Taco. I wanted a lighter tire and don't need E load range. Plus my TRD SEMA Pro wheels are lighter than most.
