    Hello everyone,
After my 3rd Tacoma, I'm finally asking the right people for advice. I guess I'm alittle old school, "or just stubborn ".
Retired military and just want to enjoy my life with my wife in the outdoors! I've been looking at the raised tents for camping, but would really like some advise before my purchase!

    Thanks in advance!
    Eric

    Welcome.
I’m assuming you’re talking about roof top tents?
Did you have specific questions about the tents?

Thank you all! Yes, roof top is what I was kinda leaning towards, but never had one. Just wanting to know if anyone had any recommendations or if you think something else would be better, I'm open for suggestions!
    Thanks again!

My RTT experience is limited but I’m on the path to getting one soon. From what I’ve narrowed it down to, the soft covered tents are falling off the list. Seems like a big chunk of setup/stowage time is spent messing with the cover. They are also as aerodynamic as a shoebox. Although if you don’t mind a cover FSR looks like the most manageable.

IKamper has some good solutions to the cover problem with a fixed cover or hard shell unit. My father in law just got their big hard shell and it’s sweet. But expect to pay between $3-4K for one.

I have my eye on the aerodynamic clamshell style like the Tepui Hybox. They seem to be the quickest setup/takedown but only sleep 2 and don’t give you a skylight to view stars. Cool part of that one is the tent zips out and it becomes a regular roof top storage box. There are some less feared versions for as little as $1500. There are some other wedge style ones with some pros and cons but they all seem to function similarly.

Keep in mind for the price of some of these you can get a canopy shell and drop in a carpet covered sleeping platform. Good lockable storage out of the elements. Virtually no setup time so it keeps you mobile. And it doesn’t add any extra drag to kill your mpg. This is what my son and I used last week on the Olympic Peninsula in WA. I just need room for the wife and daughter on the next trip so that’s why I’m looking to add a tent.

The truck bed tent thing FHC posted above seems silly to me. You have to clear out your entire bed and set up a tent around it. I guess it gets you off the ground but all your camping gear is out in the elements, your truck is stuck at camp and you still have no real room to move around. I would just go with a regular ground tent if this was the only other option.

My head and feet touch if I stretch out. I’m a side sleeper though so it’s not really an issue.

Ok. I’m not full awake yet and didn’t see that you have a LB. I keep getting it mixed up and do MSBC instead of CBMS.
