Wasn’t sure what section to post this in.

But I made a Franken-bike. I present the Dewalt Cordless Dirt Bike.

This a mashup of a MX350 Razor dirt bike and a 40v Dewalt Chainsaw. The motor and all electronics are out of the DW chainsaw.

It does about 30mph with 175# on it.

Haha maybe. It wouldn’t be cheap. The damn Razor dirt bike is a few hundred bucks. So is the chainsaw. I got both for free out of the trash so it was cheap for me.

I’m working on making it 60v soon so I can use Dewalt Flexvolt batteries.

Yea. Some of them are crazy high powered. Like 8k watts or more. I’m only at about 2k watts. But it is nice that it runs off Dewalt batteries so they are reasonably cheap compared to other e-bike batteries since they are more mass produced for power tools.

Yea. I don’t think I’ll build them for sale. But I can’t help you with the plans to build one. You need the motor and electronics from a Dewalt chainsaw. I guess really any brand would work, but I only have CAD file for mounting the Dewalt. If you decide on a different brand, make sure it’s variable speed. And make sure it’s pretty big so it powerful enough.

Yea. That is true. I’m probably gonna switch it up to 60v soon. I have a bunch of flexvolt batteries and a flexvolt chainsaw laying around.

Haha no. Not sure I want video of me on this clown bike. I got clocked at 35mph today. Couple dudes on street bikes started following me and doing wheelies. Then the cops got called. Decided to put it away for the night after that.

Had a bit of an issue today.

Somehow the phases of the motor shorted together. When I connected the battery it basically turned it into a stick welder. Ruined the motor, module and two batteries. :(

Update: New and Improved (with some issues I’m still working out).

The mini bike now runs on Dewalt 60V Flexvolt battery packs. More Powa. It’s got some issues I’m still trying to work though.

      • The start up isn’t quite as soft as the 40v. It wants to wheelie at take off (which is kinda cool, but read point #2).
      • There’s a current limit in the module that shuts it down when you try to accelerate, even if you try to do it gently.
      • Finally, theres an electrical braking that is an issue when you are trying to coast. As soon as you close the throttle, the electrical brake causes the chain to jump off the front sprocket. This alone wouldn’t be a huge issue, but combined with the current limit issue, the chain is constantly falling off.
Eventually, I’ll get it sorted out so it runs a bit smoother but for now its working well enough.
