Euro vs pencil vs cornering beams

Hey, I'm new to this whole offroad stuff, especially lighting. I have only enough space for 3 round lights up to 9" in diameter. HID and LED are out of the question due to the cost. Which has led me to the HELLA 4000 halos. I was considering running 2 euros and a pencil. In the order of euro, pencil, euro. Is this a good idea? Should I do cornering, euro, cornering? Or just straight euros? I don't do a lot of crawling, mainly high speed trail running but I've heard pencils are really only good for straight, flat ground. What would you run?

 

I used a pair of Pro Comp 9911 on my Colorado. They were plenty bright enough for me, and had a fairly wide spread.

that would be a good choice for that budget. are you looking to stay around 100bucks a light?

I just ordered one of these to supplement my high beams. I have a pretty good lighting setup already but wanted a pencil for spotting whitetail on empty blacktop. For some reason pencil is way cheaper than the other patterns. HELLA 958040081 LED Light Bar 350 (Pencil Beam)

Where are you planning to mount the new lights. Of course you can always mount any light anywhere you want. But, to get the most effectiveness out of a lighting system, placement is just as important in regards to what type of light you buy. Euro / Driving lights are most affective when mounted about 12" above or below the OE headlights. Pencil / Spot Lights are most affective mounted up high.

 

This is the exact setup I'll be running. I'm not too sure if I want to do anything up higher like a light bar or anything which is why I was thinking I might want a little mixture of patterns. Would you recommended all 3 euros then?

 

On my setup I am running a pair of KC flex spots near the top of my grill, a pair of black oak floods and a pair of baja squadron sports in combo at the bottom of the grill and a pair of kc gravity fogs in their original location. All lights added in amber . I'll be adding the pencil beam bar at the top of the grill. I agree with what @PhenixFord said about mounting locations, but it's just a rule of thumb.

 

Do you enjoy that setup? Do you feel like it could be more functional if you used extra floods in place of the spots? Or does the mixture of patterns feel optimal?

 

It is about equal to the low beams, but all in amber. I am really happy with the setup as is, with the exception of the long distance punch, hence the new pencil beam. I have driven around in the rain and a little fog with the only the amber lights going and it really is impressive how little glare the amber produces. I think it's a pretty well balanced setup between spot and flood for my area. For high speed desert stuff more spots might be better.

 

You cant go wrong either way. A combination of 2 euro's and 1 spot would be cool. Just know that the spot could loose some of it's effectiveness due to it's location on the vehicle.

 

That's a good looking setup too, I'm still hesitant about doing an LED bar on the roof but it's definitely reassuring seeing people finding good use out of grill/bumper mounted heights

 

I think this is what I'm going to end up doing, if anything I'll just give the spot to my homie for his tundra and get another flood if I don't like if.
