Does anyone know what is different between the two ECU versions? Is there already some sort of 2019 TSB or update available that would upgrade 04B30 to the seemingly newer 04B31 version of the software, or are they trim-specific in some way?

Did you scan another 2019 and see a slightly different ECU ID? There's no updates for 2019's yet and there's hundreds of ECU ID's and one number higher can be for a simple date revision for production purposes.

All I know is that some new 2019 AT engines identity as 04B30 (like mine), while others are 04B31. In years past, the differences could be related to TSB's that significantly modified the ECU programming. Example: Engines with 04B03 became 04B04 once the TSB-0062-18 was installed. Also, as far as I can tell, there have only been a small number of these engine ECU ID's for the Tacoma every year, not "hundreds." (Perhaps we're talking about two different things? I'm referring to the Engine ECU ID's, or "Calibration" ID's, specifically).

While I guess it's certainly possible that there are no significant changes between 04B30 and 04B31, I'd really like to confirm that's indeed the case. I'm guessing that only those using tuners even know/understand what their ECU ID is, so maybe someone like @OVTune has examined both and could shed some light on this? Or maybe someone else who has 04B31 knows why theirs is different than mine?

No in past years there were 8 different assigned ECU ID's (all very similar, likely only minor production changes) that would group into a TSB, all same trucks, just built at various times.

You are definitely overthinking this. 1 ECU ID off is fractional and very minor, the 19's have all the amended concerns already. When the next TSB is out you can cross reference the ID to the TSB and you'll see the other ID tag right beside yours.

I've re-flashed probably hundreds of Toyota's and all batches are the same, just slight different numbers until patch.

Fair enough. However, I'm not sure I would agree that the difference between 04B03 and 04B04 was "very minor" simply because it was "1 ECU ID off," as the single TSB that caused the change from 03 to 04 was a dramatic change for most owners who had it done.

You're probably correct about me overthinking it, though. As an analyst by trade, I tend to do that with just about everything...

Bumping this old thread. Has anyone discovered an official TSB or CUW file in the wild that includes an update from 04B30 to 04B31?
