I'm in the market for a new phone. I like Android, and am rolling with a Pixel 2 right now. Been a great phone, but I smashed it at a concert by accident (the back glass), the screen is getting burn in on the top status bar and bottom bar, and honestly, I kind of want a new phone.

So I'm doing my due diligence, and am asking a truck community for advice (LOL)

Because I have a .edu email, I am able to get somewhat of a discount on OnePlus phones. I was looking at these phones already, and decided the technology/features per price point are just too good to pass up, and with the discount, even harder to pass on. However, I am stuck deciding between the 6T and the 7Pro.

    How I use my phone:

    1. Boredom therapy (games, browsing)
    2. Web forums
    3. medium app use (banking, google pay etc)
    4. texting/messaging
    5. social media
    6. phone calls
    7. pictures
    8. Android Auto

    not necessarily in that order.

I know that the pixel phones have, for the most part, the best camera in the game, but I don't think I have ever utilized it for more than Push Here Dummy pictures and video. And while the Pixel "only has" 64GB of storah, I've only used about half of it...

    Costs:

    OnePlus 6T - $522 (8GB/128GB)
    OnePlus 7 Pro - $664 (8GB/256GB)

Do you have a OnePlus phone? What is your experience with them?

For the price, you might as well grab the newest. I've got the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition, and while I love the phone, the on-screen finger print sensor isn't the best.

Also, getting an almost full battery in 20 minutes is super nice, which is standard on the 6T McLaren edition and 7 Pro.

Are you on OOS 9.0.14 or higher. They improved the sensor a lot in that update.

Just checked, I'm on 9.0.15. don't get me wrong, the sensor used to be a lot worse, but it's definitely not as responsive as a dedicated fingerprint scanner would be.

This is coming from my experience with my previous phone, which was a OnePlus 3T.

Do you currently have a OnePlus phone? Because if you do, I don't really recommend doing the whole OnePlus to OnePlus transfer app that they have. I did it to both me and my sister's phones (both going from the 3T to the 6T), and most, if not all, the apps will crash until you uninstall them and re-install.

It's a bit annoying that we had to do that, but it's definitely not the end of the world.

I always install fresh. I've done similar transfer type things for select apps, and get the same results. They usually crash.

I'll go fresh then. Sounds like a plan. Bought a speck bumper case as well.

If you have apps that allow you to backup/restore it's own settings, that'll be ok. My 6T came with a case and screen protector preinstalled. Wonder if the 7 Pro will as well.

Came with the case and screen protector. However, I bought a speck case for this phone.

Holy shit this thing is a rocket ship. Just absolutely ridiculous.

I lost wireless Android auto but I'm not that concerned. Had zero issues hooking it up to Verizon wireless via the my Verizon portal. Had to put Android auto into development mode in order to get all of my audio apps on there but other than that this thing is amazing

The new AA UI was released today. I did the following, and gained "Show Wireless Projection Option" in development settings/options in AA:

For a OnePlus 7 Pro and Kenwood DMX905S:

Downloaded the new version from the APK mirror
    Cleared cache
    Cleared Data
    Force stop
    Reboot
    Open AA
    Settings
Select "try the new Android Auto"
Get into the Google Play Services Beta program and update, then force stop AA, clear cache and data, restart phone, go into AA, setup, go to developer options and FINALLY see the wireless projection option.

I'll test it when I get home (I have my mother inlaw's car today) to see if the wireless AA works.

It works! Had to reset my head unit, but it works, and hooks up quick.

2020 4Runner is getting Android Auto. I wonder if they'll update older Entune units to include AA, or maybe wait for something to pop up online. Might even just get an actual Android HU.
