You know just as well as anyone, Toyota literature can be...cryptic.
It still has a full size spare.
I think "temporary" applies more to the rim than the tire.
I think Toyota is also alluding to it throwing the code for different tire diameters. No idea what it's thresholds are though.

That is correct, my 2019 came with this for a spare:
    20190720_062450.jpg

If you look closely it has a sticker that says temporary use only. Both my 85 and 02 came with better quality steel rims as spares.

The spare tire is the same as the Sport factory tires (Firestone Destinations) but the spare wheel is rated only up to 50mph. I would not trust this wheel if you have a heavy load or are towing something heavy.

I upgraded to 265 70 17 Nittos and they are about $200 each. Being that the spare will be stored underneath I bought an e rated Atturo in the same size for $104 at Walmart. I had a 50% off coupon so bought a TRD Pro wheel for $114.

I do have an extra wheel spacer if anyone is interested, $25 shipped CONUS.

    Spare cable lock bought here:

    https://www.amazon.com/Trimax-Trima...ateway&sprefix=trimax+spare&sr=8-1&th=1&psc=1

For my uses this upgrade gave me a peace of mind. My 02 was crippled by a unrepairable flat in a remote area and the only local local tire shop for miles around had one used tire luckily (10x15x31.50).

I am wondering if that wheel is used also for the 50 mph temporary spares and that warning is for the typical tires they put on it? I have that kind of wheel but the tire is the same as what came on my Tacoma (BFG Rugged Trail TA 265/70-16).

no, at least not in mine

as for OP question, I have winter and summer sets, I rotate 1 of each season through the spare (upsized both seasons)
    So 8 rims/tires, 3 in garage, 5 on truck

Not sure if that helps any
(edit - OP from texas, perhaps no winter tires!)

Are you running steelies all around? I am thinking of grabbing a used 285 for my spare tire but worried about clearance on my front UCA. I guess if I blew out a front I would be stuck swapping a rear to the front and put the spare with stock steelie on the rear?

No. This is the OEM wheel. I actually run 17”s but got a different tire for the spare that is the correct outside diameter for the 16” wheel. I moved the bracket as well...easy access.

    Here are my aftermarkets:

People, in general, are dumber than a box of rocks.

They'll choose form over function 8 times in 10.

They'll pay $1000 for a multi-core CPU iPhone that can't do a measly two things at the same time. And they only do that because the mustard-guzzling idiot they most admire did it.

They'll spend $10,000 lifting their truck and putting aggressive tires on it, even though they only go to work in a cubicle farm or visit a mall.

Never question goofy behavior. You'll just get upset.

Yeah. It handles roads better. A lot better.

Are you on a road more, or rock crawling more?

    Just sayin'.

Yes, I bought 5 wheels and 5 tires. I rotate all 5 every 5,000. Make sure they're all in good shape and makes em all last even longer. Went from 265/65/17 to 265/75/17. Fits underneath in the spare carrier no problem.

    This is a 285/75/16.
I had to move the mount to match the new center but otherwise it fits neatly.

No deflate. It has very close tolerance but fits fine.

Soley to answer your question and not go way off-topic:
On a (paved) road more... not much rock crawling unless that is the road! The point is with a Sport you are paying for looks over function (fake hood scoop, and trim items). The same money buys the Off Road with A-TRAC (MTS/ Crawl), Rear locking differential, and a hydraulic brake booster (provides more powerful limited slip).
These are all driving function items. I don't want to call for help, and where I go (Baja) there isn't that option. The traction equipment prevents getting stuck (when driven wisely). I like being the guy that pulls out others and never the guy that needs to be pulled. As for the ride, I always read that the Off Road was a more comfortable ride because the Sport had stiffer shocks (for road racing in the corners)?
    Just sayin'
