Highest mileage before first 'repair'... post your experience

I rarely start random threads. They usually start with: "So I was in the garage today....", or "Urgent... modding my blankety blank and now I can't...".

So here's a question for everyone. What's the highest mileage you've ever made it on a new vehicle before you had to repair something that wasn't a consumable (Toyota preferably, Tacoma even more preferably, and 3rd Gen most preferably, but any make/model qualifies).

Category 1: Something broke and I just lived with it.
Category 2: Something broke and I had to fix it.

Starting with my 2007 FJ Cruiser, I made it to 135k miles before something broke on it. Alternator went out and I was sort of disappointed it didn't make it to 150k miles. I was like, what the heck... I only got 7 years out of this alternator? Truck went close to 200k miles before I sold and that was still the only repair I made.

 

I have a 2014 Camry 4 cyl with ~138k on it with no repairs. The VVT actuator/gear has rattled like a SOB on startup for the last 50k miles but nothing has officially been repaired to this point.

I had a 1999 Eddie Bauer Expediton that went 8 years (5 years on 35" tires) and 167k miles before its first repair, which was a driver's side wheel bearing. $100 and about an hour to repair. About a month later the alternator died. Sold it with over 200k on it and those were the only broken parts I ever replaced.

 

91,000 on my taco and zero issues. Truck has been solid.

 

2003 4x4 AC SR5 purchased new from the dealership I was wrenching at. 155,000 miles with only a ball joint recall. Did T-belt/water pump/front crank seal at 80k. Didn't even have to add freon before she was totalled a few months back. RIP/ First gen was the best gen. 5-speed MT. Crank windows. Yeah.

 

I had a 4wd Dakota that went 168K miles before I had to change the clutch. Sold it at 195K miles, nothing failed except clutch. Seriously. Had it seven years. Seat was even in good shape.

 

The Dakota was my favorite truck for a long time aesthetics wise, at least in the late 90s early 2000s (not the last version before it was discontinued). I bought one when I was 18 years old out of high school, all I could afford was a used double cab 4cyl one off a sketchy car lot with a 5spd manual. That thing couldn't get out of the way of it's own shadow lol. I lived at my parent's house at the top of a really long hill and it could barely make it up. Sold it after 3 months to buy my first Tacoma ('99 Prerunner). Been with Toyota ever since.

To this day though I still love that body style Dakota. Would have loved to have a v8 4x4 version

 

Mine was 1995 reg cab v6 magnum 5 speed sport. Dark green with bright green swoosh stripe. Loved that truck.

 

My 2nd gen 2007 sr5
10 years and 85k miles.... oil, filters, tires brakes and a battery, 1 set of spark plugs only.

 

i came close to buying a second one with the larger V8. I had the 318 version and really liked that body style.

 

I ordered a 2000 Dakota 4 door 4x4 with the V8 and Manual Transmission Feb of 2000 it finally arrived in May of 2000. That truck is the reason I won't consider anything Dodge/Chrysler again... except maybe a Challenger... someday... maybe or might just stick with the Firebird.

I think I had that exact truck, but AT. Somewhere around 35k it started overheating. It would get near the red zone and then suddenly cool down. Pretty sure it was just a valve or thermostat. Wife got super worried and warranty was only 36k so we moved on to a first gen tundra.

I really did enjoy it while I had it.

 

2000 5.0 explorer 150kish and the alternator went out. Got rid of it at 200k. Great truck.

 

I put 180k on my 2011 Tundra. Zero repairs except to fix damage inflicted by me or somebody hitting me. Besides routine maintenance the only other "repair" I did was changing a few bulbs and changing tires.

My Tacoma is at 55k and no repairs. Hopefully the winning streak continues.

 

I test drove a 318 5 speed combo once. That thing would burn the tires off in the first 3 gears like only a test driven vehicle could.

 

I was really tempted by the bigger engine... were they available in manual then? I know I drove the manual Tacoma.

 

00 Civic, bought new, still have it. 160k, haven't even had to replace a light bulb. Replaced plugs once. Just gas and oil otherwise.

 

My '03 4runner needed hub bearings around 190K. The universal joint on the steering column seized around 230K. I did the CV axles around 240K. These are mostly regular maintenance items, though.

I traded it in in in 2017 with 257K. It still had the original starter and alternator. It was on the 2nd battery. That thing was bulletproof!

 

My old tacoma went to 199K miles without any issues.

My 1991 MR2 went to 180K miles after the e-brake cable broke. the cable was 15 years old at the time, and was prone to break in cold weather. Eventually, it was involved in a collision, and it was terrible to look at. The spark plugs needed be changed and the engine wouldn't start because of that. I just ended up junking it.

 

185k on my Lexus IS350 (I've owned since 50k)... no repairs. Only maintenance items (brakes, batteries, filters). Still running on the original plugs.

Edit: I did have to replace the windshield wiper armature. One of the links broke, but I think it was the result of my wife trying to clear snow from the windshield.

 

2005 civic si. 2nd owner, 268k or 286k miles when I sold it. Original factory clutch, original factory shocks. Got me 1st place/driver of the year in autocross the only full season I campaigned it, all while pulling double-duty as a 20-25k/year DD. Only issue was the valve/solenoid that controlled AC pressure seized shut, rendering the AC useless after 3-min. Civic SI hatches =
