Since it’s tacoma world I need this in here!

I just copied and posted this from a different thread where I gave A/C tips so I hope this helps those who hate the heat

Excessive hot days ( I’ve had the 110-119 days)

    Cool down faster:

Start truck and turn on AC full and roll down all windows ( make sure recycle is off)

Wait a few minutes and then roll up windows and turn on recycle.

That’s it. It’s only going to get so cold idling in traffic or stop and go on those days. Even on the freeway in the desert on 119 degrees even if your truckinterior is 85 degrees 30 degees cooler!

    Things to check and remember

I change my cabin filter every 20k miles or so. So check yours. It’s like cleaning the lint trap in your dryer. The cleaner it is the more efficient it works. Being in this heat I need it to work at 100%

Window tint ( high end ) actually reflects heat AS WELL as shade interior.

Black (darker colors) attract/absorbsunlight. I bought a new white accord because the surface temp of the paint was 30 degrees cooler than the black one. (Think hot black top vs whiteconcrete) My BLACK DASH board was always hot to the touch so it’s radiating heat while I’m trying to cool of theinside. You can get heat reflective clear tint on the windshield to help with that, I did ($200). And if your driving a black Tacoma with a black dash board with black interior? That thing is a magnet for sunlight and heat.

In construction in the deserts I canappreciate a cool ride home. After 30 years I figured out all the causes and effects.

Now if you read this far here a treat. Wanna know what it’s like to work in the middle of a desert installing pipes in solar mirror field?

I don’t have a pic but a dude parked his truck in the mirrors and came back and it was sitting on rims! Melted the tires. A ford maybe?

    So... I know about heat.

Anybody else working in extreme temps, conditions ? How’s the truck holding up?

Is there a trick to cooling down the back seats?

Dont know the science behind of how to use the AC but I find that if I point the vents towards the rear and upwards, the people in the back say they feel the air more this way vs pointing it straight back.

I use to work on towboats on the Mississippi River shoving coal from St. Louis to New Orleans. When we built tow or done any tow work at all, my clothes including my steel toed work boots were soaked from my sweat. Know about heat. Been there done that.

Ah Montana. How I miss those beautiful Winters.

I have a copper dustpan that plays "Whistle While You Work" that I bought in Butte. That novelty shoppe right across from the Butte hole. Best souvenir ever.

Humidity plays a big part, both good and bad. AC systems don't cool as efficiently in dry air. And as someone who has traveled everywhere from Miami to Montana via Arizona I've seen both extremes. I've been out in temps from +117 down to -24 and the amount of humidity in the air is more of a factor in comfort. I've hunted in Colorado at +9 comfortably in my shirt sleeves and thought I was going to freeze in a Mississippi swamp at +40. I've hauled hay in GA at 108 with 80% humidity and hiked in
Texas at 112 with 15% humidity. Texas was much, much more comfortable.

The odd thing is the hottest temps I've ever seen were in South Dakota when it hit 117 driving to Yellowstone during the summer of 2000. The heat and low humidity rendered our AC useless from about 5 PM until sundown. It was literally more comfortable to roll the windows down. The coldest was in Tennessee in 1984 when it dropped to -24.

The AC in the Taco sucks compared to my 2018 Chevy work truck. When the humidity is terrible like it is here and the heat index is over 110 the Taco AC just cant keep up.

Yes. I am AKA mr fan. I have more fans than anyone I know. Did I just say that?

For the best for everyone. Driver side window vent point at drivers face. Front passenger point and passenger face. The TWO CENTER vent point at each other inwards and about shoulder height ( try not to block with arms) and make small adjustments until they feel it. image.jpg
