Awesome. I forget what time we are. You're going to have a blast. And by a blast I mean you're going to 100% regret it during the event.

Haha, yeah I'm expecting that. Going into it knowing I'll be running the flats and downhills and not even trying to run any of the hill, just a fast hike. I foresee more burpees than other races, but whatever.

    Ouch.
Lucky the gutter was all, for sure. That curved cornicing on the porch and the decorative cornicing over the window would have been a pain to replace.

I'm going off with age group at 615. I think my wife and her friend are starting around 8.

Honestly go slow and steady, especially right out of the gate. There's like a 3/4 mile climb from the start and everyone takes off like a bat out of hell. Just take it easy, hike the uphills, jog flats and downhills and you'll be fine. I treat it as a hike with obstacles and a freezing cold swim ( your balls will really enjoy the swim...). Everyone thinks they're David Goggins and can crush the race and then you end up passing them half way through cause they burnt out. This is especially true for the ultra, but beast as well.

You'll have fun though. We got an air bnb for the weekend. If you haven't got lodging I'd recommend it, cause you're not going to want to drive 3 hours back after. I've done it before and almost passed out and crashed due to fatigue. One year we camped out at a local state park in a lean to on the side of a mountain overlooking Killington and it was awesome.

As far as burpees honestly the expect them for the swim/ Tarzan swing under the bridge mid swim. Very few get it. After swimming 100yards out to the bridge in 50deg water your muscles aren't working well anyways and you can't feel your hands. So climbing a rope up to a bridge, and them swinging across 5 more short ropes hand over hand Tarzan style is nearly impossible. Just accept that beforehand. Otherwise everything else is pretty standard with the exception of the sandbag and bucket carries being on exceptionally steep hills that are literally going to burn your ass (glutes) up and afterwards make it feel like what I imagine is similar to a person's first night in prison.

All good advice, thank you I appreciate it! I think the ultra age groups waves start at 615 so if you're doing the beast might want to double check haha.

Yeah we got an airbnb in one of the condos right at the mountain. We're going up Friday and leaving Sunday. On the way home I'll probably see if there are any decent non-crazy fire roads or class IV's in the area.

Good call, I was looking at the wrong race. We're off at 1115. I switched to open just so we'd all start together since a bunch of us are carpooling and we didn't feel like having to drop off some of us earlier in the morning.

I looked again at the cover he has. It sits inside of the rails and uses velcro along a frame on his roll up cover. It should be fairly straightforward to mount a rack. Yeah, he's not interested in a new cover or the expense of a permanent welded bed rack.
