Thinking of buying a salvage title truck, found pictures of it when it was totalled.

I was looking at this 2013 X-runner listed below blue book, because it has a salvage title.
    Here's the listing:
    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=521688850

Then I googled the VIN and found pictures from when it was auctioned after it got smashed up:

    https://en.bidfax.info/toyota/tacoma/2016092-toyota-tacoma-2013-black-40l-vin-5tftu4cn0dx001680.html

What do you guys think? Am I crazy to consider it?

They have obviously done some repairs. Its private party sale so who knows the quality of repair. its a risk... but it is exactly what I'm looking for at a pretty good deal, and maybe I could talk them down some more.

Can anyone pick out any damage that should be a deal breaker? Does this look like it would have bent the frame?

If I do go look at it, any tips on what to look for?

    Thanks

For that price it’s crazy for not a clean title vehicle.

ONLY consider a Salvage title vehicle if you plan to keep it FOREVER.

Once you buy it, you will be stuck with it.

Also, be aware that you will probably have to pay cash as most banks won't finance a vehicle with a salvage title.

I would pass only because of the unknown. Doesn't look like it was a bad collision though. Probably had frame damage.

Nearly $17k? Maybe if it was clean and mint condition. It’s a fuck no for me.

jezus... bought for essentially 7k, fixed and turning around and selling for 10k more! DAYUM....

Yeah no hard pass.... unless you REALLLLLLY wanted an xrunner for some reason and couldnt find any others but id imagine you can find them at or around that price without too much issue without a salvage title.

The Salvage Title is a deal breaker for me, unless it's dirt cheap to make up for any unknowns that can pop up. AND l was planning to keep it until the wheels and frame fell off. As you can tell. Salvage Titled vehicles are not very popular here, especially when they're not much cheaper than a clear title vehicle.
It's a big risk, and by your own post. You know it is!!

That's an insane price. If and only if you had your heart set on an xrunner, offer 12.

Wonder what the mileage before and after the wreck was...IJS, don't be surprised when the engine in it has been swapped for an older one and the wiring harness is a mess.

17 is barely less than what I paid for my 2006 4x4 in 2008!

That accident honestly didn't look too bad at all, but for 17k that dude is high. Also, he is most likely a car flipper as he only put 5k miles on that truck before selling it.'

LOL nevermind, he put about 100 miles on it, definitely bought to milk some poor sap out of 10 grand.

Thanks for the replies. I should probably just keep looking.

The only thing I was surprised at is how people think its such a high price? Maybe its because I'm in southern California. but this listing seems much lower than most others.
For example if I search for a tacoma with less than 75k miles, a manual transmission and a V6:

    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...y=derivedpriceASC&numRecords=25&firstRecord=0

This truck is the cheapest listing on autotrader nationwide. The rest are at least 20k and up.

I didn't really start out wanting an Xrunner. My only requirement is a manual transmission 2nd gen Tacoma. My preference would be low mileage with an access cab, a v6 and RWD. Which pretty much turns out to be mostly X runners. I'm actually not a fan of the body kit, but I can live with it and the lower ride is mostly a positive. I don't plan on ever offroading. I'm just looking for a nice truck to work out of that will hold about 300 lbs worth of tools in the back.

I can be flexible on everything but the manual transmission. But even if I search for 4cyl manuals under 75k miles. the cheapest one nationwide is listed at $15k for a regular cab base model truck.

Luckily I'm not in any hurry yet. My current work truck is a 2007 Colorado that is still running . but its auto transmission is slowly dying and i'm somewhat glad to have an excuse to get something nicer and with a stick.

Any ideas where i can find better deals? or are manuals just that much of a premium on these trucks?

    None... yet
Find a prerunner. They come with the V6 and manual. Thats what I have.
As others have said, make sure your bank will finance it first. Or at least see what they will finance.
