    Has anyone experienced the "joy" of attempting to lower their spare tire on a 3rd gen with what looks to be like a theft deterrent key added to the end of the lowering rod?

    I'm about at my wits end in the garage right now in the AZ heat...any help would be sincerely appreciated.

    Every attempt at engaging the lowering mechanism causes this silver key to fall off and land on top of the spare.

    :mad::mad::mad:

    The old school hook just spins when insterted...anyone else experience this frustration?

    I'm just attempting to lower the spare in order to drill some holes in the bed to mount a Goose Gear base plate...

    ...and I can't even lower the f:mad:cking tire!!!

    Run the hooked stick through the hole in the silver key. add extensions. ad tire iron, twist tire iron.

    The hooked portion goes through the center hole and the stick will wit in the groove.

    It's very stiff at first. I went in the lifting direction first to help break it loose some.

    Just dropped my tire last night and got it out from under the truck and onto the freshly built swing-out.

    Thanks!

    I'm just glad to get the full HC out of the HC bumper. No more dragging the spare over the rocks.

    That key is interesting. My 2016 did not have one, just the plain hooked end.

    If you have the weird pouch thing all the rods and tire iron came in, it should be in there. I thought the same thing but found it stuck in the tiny pocket inside.

    I do have the pouch, so I'll need to double-check. But what is the purpose of it? Because I've lowered my tire without it..

    It fits the keyhole that lowers your spare.

    All the things!
    You don't have the keyed version. It's a factory option.
