Alrighty, interrupting here for my Dalton vs Dempster opinion. Just got off the Dalton today (btw, 81 nights in the camper in the last 3ish months) and got off the Dempster about 2 weeks ago... the Dempster is definitely more beautiful and more fun and has more camping options. Also, the road is, overall, in "worse" condition on the Dempster, but you can still take a Civic on the thing. I say "overall" because there is a paved section of the Dalton that has the most insane potholes and what not that will mess your truck up something bad if you hit them fast, and probably almost kill a motorcycle. But you just gotta "rock crawl" through that section. The Dalton gets very pretty about 200 miles i (the Brooks Range is to die for), BUT on our way back the leaves already started changing color and the entire ride was pretty.

So if you can do both, do them both. But if you can only do one, I'd say choose the Dempster.

 

I know it has been discussed somewhere in here but lost in the banter. Tried searching but no avail.

Anyone have recommendations on mattress topper? I’m 150lbs and a side sleep. Looking for something that will work with the fitted sheets (hopefully) and that won’t cause issues with closing. Am I asking for a unicorn? I’m #399 so still have a month or two to wait but my current RTT mattress is too firm for my liking so was hoping to break in a memory foam topper in the meantime.

anyone think it would be beneficial to purchase the XL fitted sheets if planning to put these into a standard?

 

No, the XL is just longer and wider, the mattress is the same depth. The fitted sheets will work with a 1” topper. Just make sure you get the correct sheets, they gave me the single sheet that is meant for the RTT version.

 

For those of you who have ran aux fuse boxes in the bed, where did you run your ground to?

Since I ran 4 gauge from my aux battery under the hood to the bed to support my compressor I ran a matching ground at the same time (likely extreme overkill). I did see a factory ground bolt on the bottom of the driver side frame rail near the axle - and I used that for my solar panel ground since it's not pushing much amperage.

 

Ran positive and negative from my battery to my fuse box in the bed. I put them together in some braided sheathing.

 

Has anyone looked into the Thule hideaway awning? I’m trying to figure out if I should get the roofrack mount or wall mount version

Is there a shorter model or are you ok with this being a bit longer than the GFC?

 

After adding my 1.5 inches of memory foam under the GFC sheets, the GFC is much more comfortable! Took a single night trip last night because the temp dropped to just under 60 degrees. So of course I had to go camping! Still made it to work at 8am. lol

I think im fine with it sticking out an extra foot. It'll look like a javelin.

 

Finally got around to doing some of the buildout after all this time. Built a small platform with 1 drawer for now, I’ll probably add a second later but it’s got all the stuff I need in it. (I know it looks like garbage but functionally I can jump on the thing and it couldn’t be more sturdy.) Left room up front that will be getting a 10 gallon water tank on one side, toying with a couple ideas for the other. Also threw the bungee net under the fixed sleeping panel to hold odds n ends, sleeping bags for now. And finally put a switch panel on the larger of the rear side pockets and wired up some lights. Girlfriend had the idea of just sticking them to some magnets so I can put them anywhere on the frame or outside the truck if wanted. Need to get some stronger magnets but works pretty good!

 

Ok gang.... who’s seen a fan mod on the roof or a good way of storing the extra cushions since the damn thing a won’t close!

 

I added a Maxxfan mini to mine, and I just run my rear square panels upside down. No issues closing mine at all and I have the original fabric and 3" mattress.
