My truck is a basic Toyota Tacoma pickup. It has a basic radio that appears to have the capability to download software? My question is,is this radio capable in anyway of acquiring SiriusXM in or do I need to purchase a new radio?

I’m not sure you have to go through a dealer. Go to xmfanstore.com. They show a kit for the 3rd generation Tacoma. It would include the XM tuner, an interface, and the necessary harness to allow you to tune into XM broadcasts on your factory radio.

I did it about 4 years ago and it works really well. It’s a pretty easy installation. Granted mines a 2nd gen, but they show a kit for newer ones as well.

I installed the following siriusXM add-on system in my wifes Pilot last month and it's been working very well. Cost is <$50. The only issue is that it adds an additional small screen and several extra wires to hide. As far as functionality, it's just as good as my tacoma that has it built-in.
