    Hello,
I'm new to the site and have a small issue with my 04 tacoma. Anytime I take the keys out of the ignition the truck doors automatically lock....Is this normal? I've been locked out of my truck twice because of this and was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. If this question has been asked already I apologize but I searched for answers for over an 2 hours and found nothing.

My 04 never did that... that's pretty strange.

My 04 DC do something similar to that with factory anti-theft alarm. When I turned on the ignition, door automatically lock if all door are closed. If I shut off the engine and remove the key from the ignition, about 15 second later the door lock will engage (only if all door are closed, even if the door were open within that 15 second period). I actually prefer it that way, sense of security if I fail to lock the door.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm system?

Has it always done this, or is this new?

factory door locks and it has been doing this for a few years...it really didn't bother me too much until I shut the drivers side door one day last week with my keys laying on the front seat and she locked up.

How long have you owned the truck? Could be a dealer installed alarm system and you don't have the fob. Is there any sort of LED on the dash that could be related to an alarm system. You'd have to look around under the dash to see if you have the alarm system box. I'm not sure what would be on a 2004.

Yes. Mine did this while it had the "Gulf States Toyota" alarm system. Was the truck sold in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama? If yes, these alarm systems were installed in Houston TX by the Toyota distributor at the port of entry. They also fail and cause immobilization issues. If you have one of these alarm systems, the best bet is to remove it.

There are threads on it. Just search on Gulf States Alarm System.

Automatic locking is annoying. If I want the doors locked then I’ll lock them.

The only thing my ‘03 does is if the doors are unlocked with the fob then they’ll auto-lock if neither door is opened within a minute or two. That’s not too bad, but it’s still unnecessary and annoying. (I don’t have an alarm system.)

I don't have an alarm system on my truck and I agree 100% with paulwal ..."if I want the doors locked then I'll lock them"

My 04 is the opposite... doors lock when I put the key in the ignition and turn it. They unlock when I shut the truck off. Pretty sure it's related to the KARR alarm the dealer installed back when.
