I almost died in my truck yesterday(with video)

Wow, what a crazy story, the videos hearing you in that much pain is heart wrenching, had to stop listening and go on to the next video. Those ladies were amazing by the way!!.... I'm praying that they'll find an answer of why this happened, that you'll get better everyday and you will recover fully! My heart goes out to you...

 

Lol! I’m assuming it was the cop who pulled your truck to the side of the road? After he gets in he makes a comment about one of the girls in his best trucker voice “Breaker....breaker.....one nine, she’s a big ‘ol flirt”. Priceless!!!!

 

I’m glad you’re at home doing better man and I don’t even know you. It really bothered me seeing people not stop to help. Faith in humanity took another dip watching those videos. All I could think about was how many cars have to pass this situation and tell themselves ‘maybe I should stop and see if help is needed’. There are too many good people in our world doing great things that we let the few bad things sway us and now people don’t stop for whatever their reasons may be.

Watched the videos. Outstanding police officers and Paramedics. Definitely not a typical presentation for encephalitis though. I hope you get referrals to Mayo Clinic. In addition to central nervous system broad differential diagnoses including MS I would argue for heavy metal poisoning (ie copper) or a metabolic disorder. This video is be very helpful and I hope your physicians take the time to watch it. If you don’t get an answer I would crowd source your problem via Dr Lisa Sanders (Physician and New York Times journalist).

OP, I hope you get this figured out. I can only imagine how terrifying that was.

Also, I am truly impressed by the professionalism of the woman that first approached. She must be in the medical field, work in an ER, or be a dispatcher or officer or something along those lines. Maybe training in crisis response? I couldn’t watch all of the videos so if she said what she does I missed it. Those girls deserve one hell of a Christmas card!

 

The person that stopped should be nominated for an award or something. Maybe us TW members if we know who this person is could take of an offering to get her something special?

I think no one stopped because of the bystander effect. Everyone sits there watching until someone else stops first. Then they help. Happened to me years ago. Two girls were high centered on snow on I90 hundreds of cars drove past. When I got to them I stopped and started to help. Then all of a sudden three other cars magically stopped to help. Same thing happens in crowds. Someone stands up then everyone else does.

damn glad to hear you are recovering! that is some crazy stuff.

i got a tiny scratch on my elbow when i was rock climbing down at Smith Rocks in OR, and two days later I woke up and I could only see sort of a milky haze. I was supposed to take my little son across the street to school, but instead I had to tell him how to call his mom back from work so she could drive me to the hospital. I had to talk her into it, she thought I was being dramatic, but once I got there I immediately went to the top of the ER triage and immediately put on kidney dialysis. Apparently if we had been 15-20 minutes later to the hospital I would not have made it. I ended up spending a month in the hospital. My arm swelled up 3-4x its normal size. They would mark it with a sharpie as the swelling spread, they didn't say it, but I know there was a line that would mean amputation. I lived on morphine and every day it seemed like a new battery of tests, like some sort of weird torture experiment. I remember being taken in for a CAT scan at 3am, high on morphine and thinking "this is some Clockwork Orange level shit". Some times 3-4 doctors would all come in my room and talk in a low tone to each other just out of my earshot, like I was some strange experiment. I'm sure they all billed me for that time, the hospital bill (covered by insurance) showed that type of thing. The doctors never could tell me what it was. They thought it could be some bad staph infection, but the tests never came back positive for that. Eventually I just turned a corner and the infection stopped spreading and started regressing. I sort of lost my faith in medicine a little bit, a month of tests and they were still guessing, they never could tell me what it was. But I do credit them from saving me with the dialysis and care, so there is that. I guess it made me realize that a lot of the world we live in human still really for the most part don't really understand, for all the advances in medicine. Still lots to learn I guess.
But I did survived and so did you, so there is that! Keep working at it and keep your head up. I had to learn how to walk again too, a month in bed and growing bloated will do that to you. Mentally its tough, but know that it was just a dip in the road and you've got a whole new life to live.

Guillain-Barré Syndrome?

We asked about that, the doctor who we were asking just happened to be the GB specialist, he said it wasnt that. But yes, my mother kept asking if it was GB since it matched so well.


I spent some time doing normal stuff today, tried getting into my hammock in front of the house.... yeah, thats hard to do when you lack the strength or balance to even stand normally. I also spent some time organizing my drone bag, charging all my batteries and shopping for canes. Going to just get me a cheap folding one for now, need to find a good store that I can visit that sells nice ones. As much as I would rather just order online, I feel like something that is going to help me walk everyday needs to be a little more hand selected than on Amazon.

 

Height of cane is most important not looks. Plus it's temporary so pretty much any cane will work. This is from a guy who has used crutches, walker and cane for various injuries and surgeries throughout my life.
Good news is you now will have one if you ever need it again. I have all my braces, air casts, crutches, etc so now I just go to the closet lol.

Top of your cane should be even with the crease of your wrist with your arms hanging down. I'm 6'4" and take a 38" cane.
