Hey all, I went to change the coolant bypass pipe today on my 2008 2.7 Tacoma. I had bought the parts from the dealer, and didnt realize that they had given me the gasket for the plastic pipe instead of the updated metal pipe. The one they gave me was a o ring style and I need a flat gasket.

So the question is, do you think I could get away with making my own gasket out of a 22r headgasket(MLS type)? As it sits, I cannot drive it so I am stuck driving my 87 Toyota pickup until I get it up and running again.

As hard as that damn thing is to get to, I would get the proper gasket before reassembling it.

It's already reassembled. I tried using the o ring style gasket and no success. I can unbolt both ends of the pipe and replace the gasket without removing anything else thankfully.

Yea I'd drive the old truck to the dealer and get the right gasket. If the homeade one leaves you stuck on the side of the road you'll kick yourself later.
