    Hi all,

I'm trying to mod my headlights to disable the stock amber DRL, and change the default DRL to the outer LED light bar that my aftermarket headlights have (see photo):
    20190828_185421.jpg

I still need the blinkers to work, so I'm thinking a may need to combine the DRL toggle mod + some frankenstein wiring to get this to work.

Here's the wiring diagram I'm referencing:
    https://www.customtacos.com/tech.ol...6toyewd/06toypdf/ewd/2006/tacoma/h/em01d7.pdf

    Here's the headlights:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jet-Black-...RL-Bar-Projector-Headlights-Pair/382956118230

Looking for advice from anyone with experience in this area, or someone who has accomplished this before.

    Thanks!

Here's a screenshot of the connector to the LED bar

I wanted to do this too but I couldn't find out how. Not sure if you can with the Spyder/aftermarket headlights

Easiest way to disable the stock DRLs is going to be to switch to a regular flasher module & the jumper block for a non-DRL truck. I got a SmartTap for mine since I wanted to put in LED bulbs anyway, and I really like it. I don't see much sense in trying to frankenstein stuff... the whole point of the factory weird DRL module/flasher is to have DRLs and turn signals out of the same bulb anyway.

If it were me, once I did that, I'd just wire the LED bars to an ignition-hot circuit (if you want them on ANY time the ignition is on) and bada-bing, daytime (well, anytime, I guess) running lights. If you wanted them only on when the truck is on but the headlights aren't, or like that with an override to turn them on even when the headlights are on, that's not too hard to accomplish with a relay and/or switch.

Looks like I have more research to do, the SmartTap isn't quite what I was going for.

Would it be a bad idea to tap into the live wire for the amber DRL and run that to the connector for the LED bar, and then snip the DRL wire to the amber bulb, and snip the live wire running from the harness to the LED bar? I assume I'd need to do some sort of add-a-fuse or risk burning up my wiring harness.

So, then the LED will become the turn signal and you will get hyperflash and you will still need to get a LED flasher. Either a $10 basic flasher or a $60 Smart tap flasher and the grey plastic jumper block. I REALLY like the cool things the Smart Tap flasher does. The most used feature is the departure lighting.

What would be neat if you could make the light bar on the light your drl and your blinker.

Even if I only re-wired the amber DRL wire? From the diagram, it appears as though the stock DRL wire and the blinker wire are separate

How many wires are there going to the front turnsignals?

Truthfully I would just get a switch from On Board air designed to look like an OE switch. Put it in a blank location and run it that way with a relay. That way you can run the new DRLs anytime you want. You can either leave them always off or always on along with the factory DRLs or you can turn them off and just run the factory DRLs. No sense in frankensteining the circuitry if there is no need to.

I had this same issue. I have spyder headlights and did the stealth dtrl mod and all it does is dim the amber lights. Haven’t come up with much after lots of research either

So if I cut the green wires in this photo I can eliminate my parking lights? I have a 2012 Tacoma with spyder headlights. The stealth mod only dims my drl’s when I cut the green with red striped wire in the cab.

I don't know how the Spyder headlights are wired. Cutting the green with red stripe eliminates the DRL on the Tacoma.

Correct, but for me all they did was dim. That’s why I’m confused

DRL's in that year is tied to the TURN signal, Vehicle ON DRL's ON, TURN selected DRL's OFF on selected side. Headlights selected DRL's OFF.
If you want the LED on the Spyders to be ON & Bright always, then you'll need an IGN/ACC fused source to them.
